Winger Thomas Kaye pointed the way with his first two tries in the opening period, helping the Royals establish a 20-4 lead as the half-time whistle beckoned.

Stand-off Lee Starbuck scored a try and two goals prior to the break, while hooker Reece Willshaw also crossed.

Methley were, however, concerned when Panthers' Wayne Garwood forced his way over for his second touchdown to reduce the deficit at the break to what, with the wind in the visitors' favour after the restart, was a manageable 12 points.

But the Royals upped the tempo after the resumption, Kaye and Willshaw completing their hat-tricks and Starbuck finishing with 20 points from three tries and four goals.

Methley were well-served by scrum-half Luke McGinlay, a ser ving soldier who was making his first full appearance while home for the weekend.

Others to impress were fullback Dave Craven and threequarters Richard Scott, Adam Jarvis and Matty Carriss-Wright.

Craig Winn, Simon Wassell, Carl Garman, Luke Pickering, Simon Dickinson, James Baxter and Paul Farrar set a solid platform up front.

Methley, who are without a fixture on Saturday because of the engage

Super League Grand Final, are holding a reunion of former players – with the Royals, the Monarchs and the 1980s side – at the Rose & Crown on Saturday 17 October, from 8.00pm.

* Tickets at 5, which includes food and a disco, are available from Simon Adamson (077 3608 6238) and Phil Hodgson (0778 6980 909).
