Loss of concentration costs Temple AFC U-12s
Temple AFC U-12s were distracted by off-pitch events at the weekend. Read match report here.
Bramley Phoenix U-12s 8
Temple AFC U-12s 2
Date: Sunday, November 4
Competition: Garforth Junior Football League, Division 4
Getting 10-yr-olds to concentrate at anytime is difficult, it is virtually impossible when dozens of uniformed police, with dogs and a helicopter descend on the scrub area adjacent to the pitch.
Bramley Phoenix, unbeaten so far this season, had never gone behind in a match until they met Temple AFC.
From the start Temple attacked in numbers and both Ashley Walker and Jack Cooling narrowly missed following long-ball runs.
On fifteen minutes the tactic paid dividends when Ashley Walker latched onto a long pass and shot high past the Phoenix keeper. Phoenix were behind and not looking the impressive force expected.
Still pressing for more Temple were then caught with their own tactic when a Phoenix long-ball beat a patched up Temple defence and a well taken equaliser was scored.
Temple immediately responded, a fine pass from Declan Isaac, neatly flicked on by Tank Wooffitt and Jack Cooling was there to beat the Phoenix keeper and put Temple ahead again.
The match was evenly poised until minutes before the break when a mistake from an in-experienced Temple defender allowed Phoenix a rare shot on goal which scraped in at the far post. Half-time: 2-2
Within minutes of the start of the second-half attention was drawn to the police action nearby.
Sadly, several Temple players were guilty of showing far more interest in that rather than the soccer.
Phoenix, showing much more discipline and some excellent passing moves, scored five goals in quick succession four being from well-worked corners, whilst some Temple players appeared to have lost all concentration.
Not until the final 10 minutes did Temple start to rally again, sub Ross Marshall showing some excellent touches, but the game was lost by then and Phoenix brought their goal tally up to eight almost on the final whistle. It could have been more except for good work by Nathan Simm, the Temple keeper, and defender Ryan McGregor, whose concentration was never in doubt.
Temple goalscorers: Ashley walker, Jack Cooling
