Colton Juniors U-15s 4

Temple AFC U-15s 1

Date: Sunday, October 7

Competition: Leeds & District

On an unusually warm mid October Sunday afternoon Colton took on local rivals Temple AFC at Temple Newsam.

With Temple AFC sporting a very bright red and green combination that left Colton playing in their all blue away kit.

A group of more than 40 local spectators soaked up the afternoon sun whilst anticipating a keenly fought contest.

Colton kicked off and started brightly. Neat midfield work between Josh Gould and George Walker setting up Colton's first strike on goal through Ben Craven. The Temple goalie saving well very early on.

As the Temple Tigers midfield tried to get a hold of the ball two successive Colton free kicks soon resulted in the first goal. Ben Craven finishing a neat move with a strike to the goalies left. 1 – 0 Colton.

Shortly after a neat left wing dribble by James Green left James Hazelgrave with a little work to do but his exquisite strike nestled in the Temple Tigers goal 2 – 0. Colton were running the game and within the first 30 minutes were heading for a second successive home win. The scorer of the third goal being James Hazelgrave after running thru the Temple Tigers defence and finishing extremely well past the Temple Tigers goalie. 3 – 0.

The confidence of the Colton team was growing as strikes on goal by Sam Bateman and Josh Gould reigned in. With the left wing of Matthew Young and James Green once again being fruitful it was just like watching Brazil on a balmy Sunday afternoon.

As the second half kicked off there was much to do for Temple Tigers but they appeared to raise their game. With Temple Tigers beginning to improve it was left to Rob 'the cat' and Nige the trainer to ask Colton to lift it a gear. The Colton defence had to deal with a number of Temple Tigers attacks but Sam Rudd and Dalton Fotherby continued to excel quashing attack after attack. It was that defence that turned into a Colton attack and a deft move by Sam Rudd in the Temple Tigers area lead to a penalty. James Hazelgrave was asked to take it with an opportunity to make it a second week hat trick and James despatched with aplomb. 4 – 0.

Colton then applied further pressure with a Sam Rudd header just grazing the Temple Tigers cross bar. That was followed by a Ryan White 25 yard block buster and further attempts on goal by George Walker. With Lewis Tyas and Harrison Brazier coming on as subs you could see the injection of fresh legs spurring Colton on.

As the game drew to a close there was little conciliation for Temple Tigers but a neat finish by Matthew McHale added a little more respect to the scoreline as the game ended 4-1.

All in all a well deserved win for an impressive Colton team who's spirit and confidence begins to grow each week.
