Cross Gates Lions U-14 6
Oulton Juniors U-14 0
Date: Sunday, September 16
Competition: Garforth League U14 Division 4
Cross Gates Lions welcomed Oulton Juniors to their ground for their first home match of the season.
Cross Gates began the game positively putting Oulton under pressure from the start. The first ten minutes saw Joe Bilbey put a shot just wide and hit the crossbar and Brett Rose also had a near miss from a shot. Despite the pressure, Oulton gave
Cross Gates a scare on the counter attack with a fast break by their number 17. Only a break neck run back by Alfie Leeds managed to do enough to stop a shot on goal. On twelve minutes the pressure by Cross
Gates broke the deadlock with Joe Bilbey running and shooting on goal to score his first. He followed this three minutes later with his second from a cross.
His hat-trick came shortly afterwards when, Ashley Hullock in mid-field, with great awareness lofted a pass which he was able to latch onto and coolly finish. Brett Rose then made it four on twenty five minutes.
Oulton were slightly unfortunate to have a penalty awarded against them just towards the end of the half when Josh Fisher was adjudged to have been fouled when caught by a boot going for a low header. Brett Rose made it five from the penalty spot before coming off shortly afterwards with an injury.
In the second half Oulton defended doggedly and continued to try and hit Cross Gates on the break. Despite immense pressure Oulton held on until Josh Fisher added a sixth ten minutes from the end.
A good effort by the whole team. Ahsley Hullock, playing in midfield, was named man-of-the-match with notable performances also from Trevor Waldron in defence and Luke Watson on the right wing.
Cross Gates Lions: Dominic Maskill, Alfie Leeds, Martin Brown, Josh Shaw, Trevor Waldron, Luke Watson, Alexander Elwen(c), Ashley Hullock, Josh Fisher, Brett Rose, Joe Bilbey, Guy Hunter, Andrew Battye.
