Leeds United: Ex-target Feeney's anxious to leave Cardiff
Big summer target Warren Feeney admits he is desperate to leave Cardiff City at the earliest possible opportunity – while revealing he was "gutted" to miss out on a close-season move to first club Leeds United.
The Northern Ireland striker, chosen ahead of ex-Whites ace David Healy for his country's friendly defeat to Serbia on Saturday, is determined to quit the Bluebirds in the January transfer window.
It remains to be seen whether United resurrect their interest in Feeney, with an injury scuppering his hopes of making a nostalgic summer return to the Whites, where he was a trainee.
But the priority for Feeney – best man to Harry Kewell at his wedding – is finding a permanent exit strategy to put a smile back on his face after a difficult time in South Wales.
Feeney said: "I was gutted over the summer with what happened, but I am not one to sit back and look at the past, these things happen in football.
"The window is coming up in January and we'll see what happens there and take things on in the new year.
"I want to get out there and I need to get playing to feel good about myself again. I've another six weeks to go and then I'll be looking to get something sorted out.
"The move to Leeds fell through because of a problem with my hip, but that's sorted now and I managed to get myself back ahead of schedule, because I was told I wouldn't kick a ball until the end of October and I was back three weeks before that.
"I'm not one who is going to sit there and pick up the money, I wouldn't do that because I want to play."
