Shaun Derry heading out of Leeds United
EXCLUSIVE Leeds United midfielder Shaun Derry will be offered a loan move out of Elland Road when he completes his recovery from an Achilles injury.
Derry has discussed the option of a temporary transfer with manager Dennis Wise, and he looks likely to exit Leeds once his fight to regain full fitness is accomplished.

The 29-year-old has not been ruled out of United's future plans completely, but Wise has warned that Derry is unlikely to be considered for a starting place when the entire squad at Elland Road is available.
Wise said: "He's not one who's fully in my plans. I've spoken to Shaun about it and there is a possible loan deal for him when he comes back to fitness.
"The problem is that I can't see him being in front of the other players we've got here. I'd also want him to be a lot fitter than he was last year because we've set a certain standard.
"I need him to get to that standard before I consider him, but the door isn't closed and you never know what can happen. If I get injuries in the centre of midfield then Shaun would be a candidate to play."
Derry is almost ready to make his comeback from Achilles surgery, fully 10 months after his last first-team appearance against West Bromwich Albion on January 6.
The former Crystal Palace midfielder signed a new three-year deal with Leeds at the beginning of last season and is under contract at Elland Road until 2009, but his Achilles injury prevented him from contributing to the second half of United's fight against relegation from the Championship.
A loan move will only be sanctioned, however, if Wise has enough midfield resources available to see him through to the January transfer window.
Wise, meanwhile, was due to respond today to a Football Association charge of misconduct relating to last month's 1-1 draw with Gillingham.
The 40-year-old was ordered from the dug-out by referee Danny McDermid, who is himself being investigated by the FA following claims he swore at Wise shortly after full-time at Priestfield.
YOUR THOUGHTS
I think there are a lot of underlining things gone on with pre united 2007 but every time i saw dezza play he gave everything for the club.
wisey has his own ideas now and althiugh i will be sad to see him go i would be a shame for him not to wear the shirt anymore, phil cragg

Although Dennis has done a fantastic job so far this season and therefore we should not really question his judgement, I do think letting Shaun Derry go could prove to be a big mistake. Thompson is a good player at this level but is far too injury prone and as yet has not been able to put a consistent run together. Shaun never gives less than 110% and would be the first player on my team sheet for of those difficult games still to come. Who would you rather go into battle with on a cold, wet, Tuesday night in Huddersfield?
Come on Dennis see sense there aren't many Shaun Derrys around, so don't hand an advantage to our opponents.

I was hoping that his return from injury would be like a new top quality signing. He could blitz the opposition, certainly at this level, and it'll be a big mistake to let him go.

I am very disappointed that we will be letting our best central midfield player go when this is the area where we have really struggled so far this season. The defence and attack have been excellent throughout but the midfield has been overrun, outworked and out passed by the opposition in virtually every game.
When everyone is fit, Derry would be the first midfielder on the team sheet for me every time. Is this a case of Wise cutting off his nose to spite his face?????

Shaun Derry was a decent player for Leeds but went missing in games for long periods. No loss to us,

This is now personal problems before the club for Wise. We were thriving when Derry was at his best. IF he gets back to top form, he is better than most of our midfielders who've been our weak link anyway so far this season. He is a player who can be sucessfull even in the Championship when we're there and he's 29 - he can continue for a few more years.
The fans will be very upset if he's sold without being given a fair chance.

Don't know the ins and outs of any problems the manager may have with him and his wages may be a problem but on the football pitch itself get him fit and he would prove to be a valuable asset to the team.

I was informed by a reliable and well respect poster on a message board at the start of the season that Derry would not kick a ball again for Leeds United, I was obviously sceptical and dismissed the idea, but I am just shocked that this now seems to be the case. One word - Shocked!

I would urge Dennis Wise to put any ill-feeling or gripes he may have, off-the-pitch, with Shaun to one side and think about the football team. Although we have done excellent this season and have coped well with the squad we have, I am still not entirely convinced with some of the performances. Shaun Derry is a ball-winner, someone who can create chances, has a great passing range and his tackling is second to none, he should be the first name on the team-sheet. As the season progresses the midfield will pick up suspensions and injury, we would look silly to struggle for cover when we could have Derry to slot into midfield.

To me it just proves that derry was the mole and thats why now that hes getting close to full fitness wise is going to farm him off and not consider him for first team selection. When really derry would be excelent in the midfield for us.Certainly better than what we have.but wise for me is sticking to his guns when he said he will never play for leeds again the mole that is.

While our Defenders have been faultless and our strikers not far behind we are missing a
consistent midfield. Derry seems to be just the player we need or is there more to the story?

Shaun Derry, when fit, is without doubt a talented midfielder and someone who gives 100 per cent.
However, if he & Wise do not see eye to eye, continues to be injury prone and if he is guilty of imparting the odd piece of information to the wrong ears then you have to support the manager's judgement.

If Wise wants to punish Derry for his 'indiscretion' perhaps he should look to his own career - sacked as a player by Leicester City if I remember correctly. The midfield is very weak. Prutton is a leaden and disappointment, Thompson is injury prone - having Shaun Derry back would be a real bonus. I know who I'd trust on my side.Despite the fantastic start to the season, don't be fooled. Dennis Wise always was and always will be an idiot. I'll lay my neck on the line and say I look forward to the day when we have a manager (and Chairman) I can respect!

Thought this season that Thompson and Flo would provide not only the experience, but also the class in our team. Both have only featured sporadically and to little effect so I would then be looking to players like Derry to hellp out what is a youthful midfield still struggling to find it's feet at this level. Come on Dennis, for the good of the team we need to keep him, if even as a back up for when injuries and suspensions kick in. We have a thin enough squad as it is and someone like Shaun would be great to fall back on.

I would be really disappointed to see Shaun Derry leave Elland Road. I can't believe he would not have a major impact on our midfield. I love to see him in the shirt and he is a proper battler.
Shaun - good luck - get super fit and get back in that team - 30,000 people want to see you there.
Dennis - please give Shaun a chance, he is a real favourite and not without reason, but if your mind is made up I'll be behind you anyway.

We have to keep super Shaun Derry. He is a fantastic player and is just as good as Douglas, Prutton, Hughes and Thompson if not better. He is a fans favourite and i think it would be a great shame to lose him.
Come on Dennis see sense and keep him.

Cant believe that Dennis thinks that the midfield is OK without Shaun Derry
There is no quality or creativity - Thompson looks passed his sell by date -
will he ever be fully fit again?- and although hard working Douglas and Hughes
look ordinary - give Shaun a chance Dennis and see if he really wants to play
for us, or go out and get a loan player with creative ability.

I agree with most of the comments published so far. When fully fit Shaun Derry was one of our best players last season and it will be like having a new signing when he returns to first team action. His workrate and ball winning skills have been missed of late and he will be an asset to the team so I would advise Wisey to think again.

If Derry is fit he should be considered, pre-injury Derry was one of the few players to show real determination and not a small amount of skill unlike some of the 'team' last season. Come on Dennis, reconsider, Dezza is a player the fans relate to.

Shaun Derry has never let us down and this could be a mistake. If the boss is sending Derry out to get fit - fine. If he's saying he's finished with Leeds it's a mistake. He was a class act in the championship and would be even more so in div1. A fit derry in Jan would be like signing a great new player. Wisey's done a great job so far in Div1, but I disagree with this particular action.

I suspected in the summer Shaun Derry would not play for us again. Now I believe that has been confirmed. Wise's word aren't that wise really. Are Thompson and Flo fit? Where are they regaining their match fitness? Not out on loan that's for sure. "In the midfield department we are looking okay at the moment" quote Dennis Wise. Do okay teams get promoted? We've ridden our luck big time this season so why get rid of a player who in this league should stand out.I'm all for the new team spirit that has emerged and has obvioulsy been missing in the last few years, but Sean Derry would add quality to our midfield which you have to say hasn't looked too impressive this season. Give him a chance Dennis!!!! Our team takes priority over DW's personal squabbles.

A fit Shaun Derry is simply our best midfielder. Big mistake if we let him go.
