Second-half strike from Jake Buxton and Ben Davies halted Leeds United’s resurgent run as Derby County ran out 3-1 winners at Pride Park.

Buxton’s 12-yard finish and an injury-time effort from Davies settled a scrappy but competitive match, ending Leeds’ sequence of three straight wins in the process.

Paul Green’s goal seconds before half-time – replying to Conor Sammon’s early strike for Derby – briefly changed the flow of the game and Leeds controlled the initial stages of the second half, with Ryan Hall and Ross McCormack both going close.

But Sammon threatened again for Derby on 57 minutes, dragging a hurried finish wide, and Paddy Kenny denied the impressive Will Hughes with a brilliant save moments later. As the pressure grew, County regained the lead on 67 minutes when defender Jake Buxton fired into the net amid poor defending from United.

David Norris could have levelled with a volley which County goalkeeper Adam Legzdins parried and Tom Lees was desperately unlucky to see a header strike in the inside of the post, with Richard Keogh waiting to clear on the goalline.

Substitute El-Hadji Diouf fired inches wide in the closing stages but Davies settled the contest when a Derby attack left him with space to shoot at the end of added time.
