Leeds United: Warnock ready for action with Whites LATEST

Neil Warnock at Elland Road yesterday.

Neil Warnock at Elland Road yesterday.

Neil Warnock will officially start work as Leeds` new manager today, after not being able to help himself from getting involved in team affairs yesterday.

The 63-year-old, known as a promotion expert, was given an 18-month contract as Simon Grayson`s replacement yesterday morning, and arrived at Elland Road to watch his new side against Doncaster.

They started poorly and trailed 1-0 at the break, prompting Warnock to head to the dressing room and assist interim boss Neil Redfearn with his team talk.

And, even though they went 2-0 down not long after, his words worked as Leeds hit back to win 3-2, with Luciano Becchio scoring the winner in the ninth minute of added time.

“I thought they did well. We changed formation at half-time, or just after, and I thought it worked well,” Warnock said of the game.

“All credit to them, a lot of teams might have given up, but at 2-0 down it got the atmosphere going.”

Leeds stand 10th in the table, three points behind sixth-placed Birmingham, who have played two fewer games than the Yorkshire side.

Warnock is aiming high, and when asked about aiming for the play-offs he added: “I think anything can happen. I think we’re a long way from being a top side, if I’m honest, but the lads have got spirit and they showed that to come back from 2-0 down

“So (there are) 14 games (to play), everybody’s trying to help everybody else aren’t they, because no-one’s running away with it, so you never say never do you?”

Elsewhere yesterday, manager Nigel Adkins dubbed Adam Lallana the best player in the Championship as Southampton returned to the top of the league with a resounding 4-0 win over Derby.

Defenders Jos Hooiveld and Aaron Martin netted from Danny Fox corners either side of the break to set Saints on their way.

Spectacular strikes from Lallana and Tadanari Lee, scoring his first for Southampton, sent Saints back to the summit, above West Ham, for the first time in four weeks.

Adkins said: “You can see our confidence shining through. It was a good win, with four excellent goals at home.

“It was an outstanding goal from Adam Lallana. One word sums him up - class. For me he is the best player in the league. He is top drawer.”

Nottingham Forest secured a first home win since November, beating Coventry 2-0 and climbing out of the relegation places in the process.

A moment of magic from Garath McCleary set them on their way and, after Robbie Findlay wrapped things up, manager Steve Cotterill praised McCleary`s goal.

“It was a great goal,” he said. “

Garath has great feet and he’s more than capable of doing that.”

Barnsley beat crisis club Portsmouth 2-0 at Oakwell, with Jim O`Brien and Matt Done scoring in Pompey`s first game since they went into administration,

Manager Keith Hill was not interested in dishing out sympathy, though, saying: “None whatsoever, absolutely none. Because they’ve spent money they can’t afford.

“They’ve recruited players at the beginning of the season knowing full well they were still in debt from the previous time they were still in administration.”

In the day`s other games, Crystal Palace beat Watford 4-0, Peterborough saw off struggling Bristol City 3-0 and Ipswich beat Cardiff by the same scoreline.

If the players don't improve, it will be obvious to all that it is bates penny pinching that has done the damage, not Grayson the scapegoat.

It was only one match, against dreadful opposition who dominated us for long periods, and with tough fixtures in March approaching, Warnock has a big job on his hands, but he seems ready to galvanise the squad and get the best out of them. I hope the new positive vibe gets the same response from the fans, I remember the huge "wall of sound" from the Bristol Rovers promotion match, how fantastic it would be to have that level of excitement again. There's no reason why this squad, most of whom weren't playing in that match, can't experience it. In fact they should be shown videos of that day and see what they can inspire and be inspired by. Never thought I would say this, but well done KB. I'm amazed. Fantastic appointment for us. Neil Warnock knows what we're about, and we know him. I know he can and has rubbed people up the wrong way, and will continue to do that. But the fella has got charisma. He's someone you can believe in, a completely credible person. He's also got that fire in his belly, and that glint in his eye. That is what Leeds United are all about. I think the last manager we had like that was George Graham and before that Wilko. So I feel very positive about us now. Doesn't matter if we don't get up this season. We have a manger who will drive us forward and upwards. He won't stop until we're back in the Premiership. So I would urge all of us to get behind the team and Neil. He deserves a fair chance. People say he's never done it in the Prem and that's maybe true. But he's never been in charge of LUFC, the greatest club on the planet. With the most passionate fans in the world behind you everything is possible. You just have to believe and make it happen - want it ! He knows what a great club we are and didn't want to miss the chance. So well done Batesy, but please you and your pals learn to keep your stupid gobs shut, you damage Leeds United every time you speak. Thank-you very much Neil for having the guts and foresight to join us. Best of luck mate I'm 100% behind you. Marching on Together, we're gonna see you win ! Now let's get stuck into whoever is up against us, the soft-centred, easy pushover days have just finished on Saturday !

Warnock knows exactly who we are and what we are about, right appointment, right time. The fact that he couldn't help himself but to come down at half time and change things, means he has the right attitude, an attitude we want to see in our manager. Get behind Warnock, get behind the team, get promotion. Great things to come and i for one am excited about our prospects!

If there's one thing the appointment of Warnock has given LUFC it's that the Club will most probably be always mentioned in the Papers. Neil's knowledge of the game is second to none and I'm sure the Press will be following his progress (not that he needs any) at LUFC starting with a winning trip down at troubled Portsmouth followed by a home win against the Divisions current leaders. I personally think that Warn'y secretly believes he can get LUFC playing in the Play Off final come end of this Season. Or am I being over optimistic?

Neil Warnock could be our voice when talking to the board. Just search YouTube and see how he uses fans to galvanise the players. If only he could do that in the boardroom "there are twenty odd thousand people out there paying top dollar while you sit in your new executive boxes and insult them. Now get off your a@@@@ and f@@@@@ win them over". Warnock for LUST. Things can only get better.

I think Bates has done something very right indeed by appointing Warnock. It may be asking too much for him to make it happen this late in the season but I feel sure he can do it next time if not. The appointment of Warnock is exactly the right man and we're lucky to have him. We need someone to match the ambition of the fans and Bates did it right. Let's be fair about that. I'm just totally re-charged for Leeds United after feeling really down about the club. With Warnock at the helm I feel it could be 'the second coming' of Leeds United football club.

It's amazing how your feelings can change. When Colin managed other teams I thought him as a bigheaded egotistical maverick however, having given this much thought, I cannot think of a better type of person in charge than a bigheaded egotistical maverick who has something to gain with getting promoted. He wants that record of having the most team promotions of any Football Manager in the English league. Just the calibre of manager Leeds United need...one who has a huge ego and knows how to massage it. So, hopefully, Mr. Warnock can get the best out of the team and get the best out of the Board! Lets all of us get behind him because I'm sure that there will be strong decisions being made that may not suit everybody but at least we know we now have a manager who'll get things done...his way. For the first time in 7 years I actually feep optimistic...amazing. I'm please that Papa Smurf got the 7 year itch. MOT!!

Good luck Neil. Give the players a boot up their backsides and change things around. It's time for all fans to get behind the new manager and the players he picks from now on. Papa Smurf for once has tried to do the right thing by the club so lets all get off his back and just see how much magic Neil can weave with this team. Don't forget he is inheriting Grayson's mess and poor squad. If not promotion this season, then definetly automatic promotion next season. Lets all now restart MOT! I for one feel positive the first time this season. There is at least "hope" in the air again.
