Leeds United: Warnock has the nous that we need - Ormsby

Leeds United legend Brendan Ormsby answers your questions.

Hi Brendan.

Much as it’s hard for me to say, I think the only choice for the new Leeds United manager is Neil Warnock. We need an experienced boss to sort out the squad and get the senior players on side again.

Warren Fleary, Leeds

Neil Warnock seems to be the favourite at the minute, Warren, and I don’t really know who else is knocking about at the moment.

He’s one of the most experienced managers looking for a job at the minute. Warnock’s been around a heck of a long time. I remember when I was at Scarborough a long, long time ago and he was at Notts County.

Some young lads currently playing haven’t been through stuff, but Warnock has, pretty much, been through everything. And he’s been up and down at clubs so many times throughout the leagues.

He knows what it takes to get teams up and what you need to do to bounce back when you get relegated. Someone with a lot of experience at the top is what Leeds need at the minute, I think.

We know all about Warnock; he’s says what he feels and he won’t take any rubbish from anyone.

Some players certainly might get a shock if it’s Neil because, at the moment, they might be having an easy ride. But if he walks in, it will be very different.

If he comes in, it will be like when I was at Leeds and Wilko (Howard Wilkinson) and Mick Hennigan arrived. We thought: ‘Bloody hell, who are these?’

They gave the players a right kick up the backside, as Warnock would. Wilko came in, didn’t take any rubbish from anyone – neither did Mick– and turned the club round completely on and off the pitch. They were honest and they got a response from us.

United need some experience in, starting with the manager. We’ve got too many kids in the side at the minute and when the going gets tough, as it did on Tuesday at home to Birmingham City, some will hide. We need some players who know what it’s all about and a manager.

A lot of players these days think they are God’s gift to football, but they’re not. They have got to learn their trade. You can’t buy experience.

Bigger

Neil Warnock wouldn’t be scared of upsetting anyone. We’ve all seen him on telly enough times and seen the amount of times he’s been in trouble with the FA and referees and linesman.

I’m the same as him – I’ve nearly been sent off twice in the past couple of weeks in my role as boss of Pontefract Collieries! The refs have to pull me to one side and calm me down.

Warnock won’t back down with players, or be scared of them. In a way, he’s bigger than them and that’s a good thing.

At some clubs, a lot of players think they are bigger than the manager, or the club, and think they’re better than they are and strutt about with a ‘you can’t tell me what to do’ attitude.

Warnock wouldn’t tolerate any of that and he’s one of those managers who, when asked a question, will answer it brutally honestly.

Warnock will be too tough for Bayes to manage! Warnock will not enter Thorpe Arch with Gwyn Williams there - he can't stand the interfering cockney mafia member! End of story gents! Bates out! MOT

Much as liked Grayson in many respects, he wasn't the most consistant tactician around and made school-boy errors at times. Though Warnock isn't the most liked guy around ER he is well respected! Seven promotions speak for itself!! If Ken Bates has anything about him he will put up and shut up and get the most elligable Manager around in!! There is no other choice in my mind!

As much as I love the Leeds legend that is Gordon Strachan, no Leeds player who has ever left and returned to the club has done a thing for us managerially. How can fans who don't like Warnock (I personally think he's a good plain-speaking bloke), use that as a reason for not wanting him to manage Leeds? Put the team first - and Warnock WILL take us up. Moreover, he'll have the (grudging) respect of Bates and is more likely to stand up to him than any young manager out there. Anyway, the decision is all but made in Bates's mind, I believe, and no-one's going to influence him - so sit tight and watch this space. Then get 100% behind whoever gets the job!

As a 74 year old supporter i remember having appointed the countrys most successfull manager of his era Brian Clough, then we dropped the preverbial and missed the boat, Notts Forest must be ever gratefull to us. We also missed out on a certain Johny Giles, who was highley recomended by the one and only Don Revie, giles went to west brom and got them promoted, again we were as short sighted as ever. This time around we have the oppertunity hopefully of getting a successfull manager Neil Warnock, Whats not to like about him, the the man speaks his mind and is srong in where it matters, the dressing room, wasent Howard Wilkinson the same. some of these weak kneed supporters crying i dont like Warnock want to get behind the teams future, and someone who may refuse to be a yes man for Mr Know Nought Bates. The only other man i sense could be good is Dave Jones. For gods sake no strachen no Bruce no ex Chelsea ken bates love childs, hope for the best against Bristol today good luck Redfearn

Warnock's the man for me. The players and some of the fans in the Kop need shaking up as they have both been under-performing this season. Many sections have become so obsessed with anti KB chants that they have taken their focus off supporting the team. Warnock would be the breathe of fresh air that we need. No nonsense, good man manager and someone who the players respect and listen to (something they apparently didn't do under SG). I don't want anyone from lower leagues (Robinson, Clarke) as this would be a sideways move. And I don't want anyone with ChelseaMan u connections (Bruce, Poyet, DiMatteo) as the fans would quickly get on their backs if they had a couple of bad results. Warnock's proven himself at this level. Offer him the job KB. This is the most important appointment in the club's history.

I have never been Warnocks biggest fan. However he is just what we need right now. We can spend the next few months worrying about the poor squad of players we have , it wont help. It isnt going to change and lets be honest it will get worse before it gets better. I think we all know that Snodgrass will already have his move sorted in the summer. The players and as importantly , the fans need a lift. Warnock will raise the clubs profile again , he will make some great comments , some crazy comments but he has a big personality and will make people smile. Bates needs to keep his big obnoxious mouth shut for a few months and concentrate on finding an exit strategy, because even someoone as stupid as him must know he has completely lost the customers and his profits are in real jeopardy. Lorimer needs to stop spouting the crap he does in the YEP and start to grow a backbone again. (Forget the money Peter , there is still time to recover your reputation!) Yes for me , Warnock is just what we need , he has managed clubs before on small budgets, he must have been at clubs with dodgy owners before . Warnock may well be just what we need to get the black cloud away from the club at least until we are finally rid of the cancer that is the Bates regime.

I think we all know that Warnock is the obvious choice, but will he be able to work with the junta that is Bates and Harvey? My other concern is how will he react, to certain sections of our supporters who obviously don't want him as manager and how will he work to apease them in order for their support? For me Warnock would be the right choice even if at times he can be a complete wazzock.

Yes I completely agree Brendan. Neil Warnock is the right choice at this time. He's got all the man-management skills needed to get the team at least into the play-offs and maybe up via a Wembley final. In terms of Lambert, let's be sensible here, why on earth would he come to Leeds right now? Lee Clark wouldn't give us anything more than we had with Simon Grayson; Di Matteo - again, please let's be sensible, the guy is enjoying a huge salary with little pressure at Chelsea and I don't rate his abilities either in terms of man-management or projecting himself to the Leeds fan-base; as for the rest of the field, no disrespect, but no thanks, not now. Warnock is the clear best choice. Warnock IN and in NOW.

I'd like to see Warnock at Leeds, but my money's on promotion from within. Redfearn would be eternally grateful, compliant and, most important of all, cheap. If he gets it I'll back him, everyone deserves a chance. But I do think it's in the bag.

not warnock please , really him and i bates together i would be able to hear themscreaming from here in the midlands , i think the key phrase in the article though is "hes the best manager currently looking for a job" ...What can we only hire the unemployed ? is this some new goverment scheme for the dole ? are we hiring tramps as groundsmen next ?.....And also breden " a lot of experience at the top " half a season in the premier leauge is not a lot of experience at the top

Middlesbrough last season and Leicester this season are proof that spending money doesn't always work, and big names don't neither ask Saunders, we need a manager that can get the best from the squad and warnock in my opinion fits the bill, he might not be liked by many but his tough talking no nonsense approach has won him 7 promotions and that's what we need, MOT
