A new dawn broke over Leeds 11 on Saturday with the announcement of the marriage of Neil Warnock and Ken Bates. I feel that a proven manager with his wealth of experience was the only choice. An incredible game followed, Leeds going 2-0 down but hitting back through goals from Townsend, Clayton and in the 99th minute a wonderful effort from Becchio. Welcome to Leeds Neil!

The outcome of the game was settled for the umpteenth time this season in stoppage time. United, having lost the previous two fixtures, claimed victory apparently inspired by Warnock’s tactical change after half-time. I suspect his overriding initial thoughts were ‘this is a bigger job than I thought’ and ‘where has the support gone?’, the crowd having topped 30,000 on his last visit with QPR.

Relief and jubilation was the words that most of the Leeds fans would be saying following that dramatic Yorkshire Derby victory over Doncaster Rovers. Of course the whole game was dominated with the news of Neil Warnock’s appointment as manager. Overall it was a poor and lucky performance by Leeds but they scraped through to keep in touch with the play-offs and the win also gives Warnock something to work with.

By half time Neil Warnock must have felt like resigning as the Whites but in an abject display and trailed their visitors 1-0 at the break. This soon became 2-0 but in the end after drawing themselves level, United picked Doncaster’s pockets when Lucciano Becchio scored a fine late winner. A welcome three points but the new gaffer now knows the size of the task ahead of him.

Yet another last minute winner, this time in United’s favour ensured that Neil Warnock’s introduction to Elland Road would be suitably dramatic. Robbie Rodgers probably won’t remember his debut, but the time added on for his injury, saw Luciano Becchio grab a superb winner. The fireworks didn’t end their with a bust up in the tunnel allegedly initiated by the odious El-Hadj Diouf
