Leeds United: Two defeats ended Redfearn’s hopes - Ormsby

Leeds United legend Brendan Ormsby answers your questions.

Hi Brendan, has Neil Redfearn blown his chances of getting the Leeds job permanently with two bad results this week? And is that the end of our play-off hopes as well?

Gary Meade, Armley

As regards Neil Redfearn’s chances, I’ve got to be honest and say yes.

I know he got a result against Bristol City but we have lost the last two and, apparently, the team weren’t too good the other night at Coventry.

I see Neil has had a go at the players in the YEP, even though he’s only caretaker boss, so good on him for that.

I just think if had won the last three games and had three wins out of three t anhen it would have made his case very strong.

I think the supporters would have been saying give him a chance because he already had the backing of the players.

But, as it stands at the moment, it is two defeats out of three and it’s a big game today with a derby against Donny and they are fighting for survival.

I think the chairman, Ken Bates, will be looking at bringing somebody else in just to give the club a bit of a lift – just a new face who the players will have to get used to.

But yes, Gary, I do think the last two results have decided Neil’s immediate future.

As for when the chairman brings someone in, I can’t see him waiting too long and I think the supporters want it sorting out.

Having talked to some of them their view was either give it to Neil Redfearn full time, tell him he is manager until the end of the season, or get a new manager in as soon as possible and see what they can make from the rest of the season and see if they can get in the play-offs.

If they can get in the play-offs then there’s a chance of promotion and I think that’s the least that Ken Bates wants – the play-offs.

But I’ve got to say I think the chairman has mostly made his mind up already.

I still think there’s a chance of getting in the play-offs, what are we – six points off them?

When Leeds sacked Simon Grayson a few weeks ago they were still only a point off the play-offs, but I don’t think the are out of the question completely despite the last two results.

You can’t give up at this stage of the season and there are still plenty of games left to play.

United are obviously dropping away from it all the time now and playing catch up and they need to get some points back, but the players have got to have belief in themselves no matter who is in charge.

It’s a big derby game today, there is going to be a good atmosphere, and Donny are not going to give us anything.

But I don’t think we should be giving up on the play-offs at all and there are plenty of points left to play for.

I am not 100% sure if this is true as it isn't my field of expertise, but someone mentioned to me that they believed that if we go up within 7 years of administration Bates has to pay creditors £15M - if so it makes sense in selling players, not investing, building new boxes instead if a team, selling your best player every year etc
