Leeds United: Price must be right for Baudry

Leeds United are discussing a possible deal for French trialist Mathieu Baudry – but will only move to sign the defender if the price is right.

Baudry has emerged as genuine transfer option for manager Simon Grayson after 10 days' training with the Elland Road club and one appearance during a pre-season friendly at Grimsby Town.

The 21-year-old is under contract with French club Troyes where his deal is due to run for another two seasons, but a clause in that agreement has allowed Baudry to talk with other teams following Troyes' relegation to France's third division.

He flew to England to link up with Leeds at the beginning of pre-season, though difficulties with securing international clearance for the young centre-back restricted Baudry to just one outing in a United shirt.

His 79-minute appearance in a 1-1 draw at Grimsby last week, on a night when Leeds struggled to find their form, drew praise from Grayson, and United's boss is seriously considering adding Baudry to his squad on a full-time basis.

Grayson said: "We're speaking to the player and the club. It's something we have to make a final decision on depending on the fee or the agreement that we're able to come to.

"He's an option for us but we're not going to pay over the odds for people or make any rash decisions.

"I think he did well in the game at Grimsby and the 10 days that he trained with us.

"He's only young at 21 but he's got a bit about him and if the right deal can be struck then it's a possibility."
