Leeds United left-back Ben Parker has revealed that he underwent seven operations in a bid to win his long battle with injury.
Parker is setting his sights on regaining a first-team place at Elland Road this summer after coming through the worst of his fitness concerns.
The 23-year-old’s career has stalled since he suffered a hamstring strain in August 2009, the first of a series of problems which consigned him to the sidelines for almost two years.
Parker, pictured above, will be part of the squad which travels north for a pre-season tour of Scotland this weekend, and the left-back berth in Grayson’s team is currently available following the acrimonious end of George McCartney’s loan from Sunderland.
McCartney occupied the left side of United’s defence for much of last term but departed under a cloud following criticism of him by club chairman Ken Bates.
Parker said: “I know I’ve got loads to prove, not only to the manager here but everyone at Leeds.
“It’s my turn to repay them by playing week in, week out and showing what I can do.”
