Leeds United: One game at a time for Redfearn
Neil Redfearn on the touchline against Brighton and Hove Albion.
A frustrated Neil Redfearn vowed to see through his spell as caretaker after a late Brighton winner damaged Leeds United’s promotion hopes and his own chances of becoming their next manager.
Redfearn admitted that the pressure for results had risen rapidly ahead of key games against Coventry City and Doncaster Rovers, the last of his time in temporary charge.
The manager’s job at Leeds remains vacant almost a fortnight after Leeds moved to sack Simon Grayson and hand interim control to academy coach Redfearn.

The 46-year-old’s future in the post will be decided at the end of this week but he and the club suffered a keen blow on Saturday as an injury-time goal from Alan Navarro gave Brighton a 2-1 win at Elland Road.
The loss cast United four points adrift of the Championship’s play-offs, and Redfearn was annoyed by his side’s failure to hold on for a point having fought back from Craig Mackail-Smith’s second-half strike.
“If you’re going to get promoted, there’s pressure to get results every week,” Redfearn said. “You’ve got to be winning.
“You’re not going to get promoted unless you’re winning or picking points up. I’m mindful of that.
“But if I looked at it as having to win every game then I’d never get up in the morning. You may as well take it one game at a time. I’m doing my best for the club and we’ve had a response out of the lads, there’s no two ways about that. They had a right old go.
“I’m here to take it one game at a time and it’s a difficult situation as regards that. You can’t really plan. But I’m happy to keep it going that way.”

Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at 03:44 AMFingers crossed for tonight at Cov. Meanwhile, come on Harvey Bates and Williams, look lively and get an appointment made. The longer the delay, the more speculation, the more unsettled the squad, the more restless the fans. Should have signed Antic, but by now he will have Googled Ken Bates and would run a mile. As successive managers distance themsleves from being our next manager, it's getting embarrassing. To think, we have sunk to this level of strategic planning in the Boardroom (i.e. NONE).

Monday, February 13, 2012 at 11:01 PMJust been looking at lutv and some players comments about the Brighton game, amazingley i now feel much better, Aidy white says if they had not scored 2 goals we would have won, perhaps if we had scored 3 goals we could have won. or maybe if they had only scored one goal we could have scored 2 and won, or if they had not scored ,our 1 goal would have been enough, Funny game isnt it. As for ODea he just thinks we should have won, if we had got a penalty, Also Redfearn said we can score enough goals to sink a battleship, if thats the case we should have won???????

Monday, February 13, 2012 at 06:51 PMI don't believe that any Leeds fan can be serious in wanting the proven loser McCarthy at our club he is useless and can't handle big players. For goodness sake we need someone like Warnock or Poyet not barnsley Mick.

Monday, February 13, 2012 at 06:05 PMWhoever takes the managers job at wolves won't do much better than McCarthy, wolves don't have the players. I would like Mick as Leeds boss though, He's experienced and should be able to organise Leeds defenders

Monday, February 13, 2012 at 04:45 PMi have just heard on radio 5 sport, that wolves hope to have a new manager in place by this weekend. what a difference in urgency, while we persue our experiment to turn our youth team coaches into future fergusons or murinos. Wolves nip in smartley and no dought take someone who we could have possibly brought in, because if Warnock, Davies, jones, get a sniff they certainly wont choose Leeds. Because as i see it, Wolves only need saving from relegation, we just need saving full stop. because we aint going nowhere near the top flight. As for Mick McCarthy, i like him, he has a good track record, but i feel he needs a break, he scrambled last year to survival. trouble again now, can you imagine a new job, with our lot, and to make matters worse Master BATES.

Monday, February 13, 2012 at 04:40 PMWould still like Raddy Antic with his different ideas to the usual English manager to come in if his rumoured application still stands ... however,if not I would be happy with, and fully supportive of Mick McCarthy, particularly if it put an end to the speculation surrounding Neil Warnock. Until an appointment is made and with tonight's game in mind, Neil Redfern just has to make changes ... the same selections as made under SG will not work ... at least Pugh and O'Dea out, Aidy White to full back, Alex Bruce to be included and lets see what the USA international, Robbie Rogers has to offer ... can't possibly be any worse than we've already witnessed.

Monday, February 13, 2012 at 04:34 PMAgree with point 9. I've supported leeds for 31 years but on Saturday felt like going home at half time. Even some of the leeds fans are getting me down. At one point a minority behind me in the kop started singing "There's only one Simon Grayson". Like that's really going to lift the lads in white isn't it?

Monday, February 13, 2012 at 03:03 PMWell put Steve50. I was shocked when Redfearn played the same players at Bristol apart from young Smith and kept the same team V Brighton, this just shows, like you said - no change. If we have any chance we need to gamble tomorrow night and change personal and that's at the back. White for Pugh, AOB or Bruce for O'Dea and give the arm band to Clayton or Snodgrass.

Monday, February 13, 2012 at 02:40 PMpromotion in any form has gone now, looking at history very few teams have lost more than 11 games and made the playoffs (strangely enough Blackpool did it a few years ago) in 0405 we finished 14th and lost 14 that pretty much looks where we look to be going, we would need a run like we have never seen to get into a secure playoff position. I never agreed Redfearn should have a chance, why because he was here? that showed little ambition from the club. We should be interviewing now for a forward thinking manager who can change the club from top to bottom as did Wilkinson some years ago or as Lambert as done at Norwich. I would have been more supportive of Redfearn if he at least had made changes in team selection and tactics but to pick the same players in the same formation for me showed a lack of ambition and no imagination or vision he had nothing to lose and everything to gain, he should have strapped a pair on and gone for it. If Redfearn was going to be "the same old, same old" we may has well have kept Grayson. Can't believe anyone is clammering for Mick McCarthy, why because he's a Yorkshireman? come on, our ambitions have got to be better than that, the guy has just been sacked by Wolves, Yorkshire grit has to be backed up with abiliity, and man management skills he's got neither ask Roy Kean

Monday, February 13, 2012 at 01:55 PMRedfearn is OK but I think we need to go for Mick McCarthy straight away. Yorkshireman, fan of Revie era Leeds, straight talker, won't just roll over for Ken Bates, and his record at getting teams promoted is great. MOT.

Monday, February 13, 2012 at 01:38 PMWhat is the point of having a CEO (Harvey), who has no voice, no profile and little integrity. A CEO should stand up to his chairman and help to lead the club on a day to day business. A CEO without the ability to lead is just a further drain on finances. Mr Harvey, please start making some statements on the club and it's strategy, you have a duty to the supporters,

Monday, February 13, 2012 at 01:37 PMTotally agree with @3 we need a completely fresh start in terms of management team. It is not healthly for the team to be picking and choosing the manager! It is a clear case of the tail wagging the dog IMO. @ comment 4, the club did not leave the 2007 adminstration under a CVA, HMRC vowed to vote against any CVA due to their opposition to the football creditors rule. As part of the agreement of sale between Bates and the adminstrator (KPMG), Bates and his group agreed to pay back 52.4p in the pound to creditors, however that is only if the club were promoted to the premier league within 10 seasons (of season 200708). I am no Bates supporter, but the conspiracy about Bates not wanting promotion due to the conditions leaving administration do not bear out as very conservative estimates put a 'value' on promotion to the Premier league at between £45- £55m, this is far in excess of the figure the Bates consortium agreed to pay back to creditors on promotion.

Monday, February 13, 2012 at 01:22 PMMcCarthy will do for me! Straight talking, hard working pro who'll certainly sort a few of our journeymen pro's out, that's for sure. He won't expect a loy from Bates, which is good as he won't get a lot but he'd move heaven and earth to work fior a club that he could actually take places. Perhaps KB was waiting for the right man to come along........
