Leeds United: Neil Warnock appointed new Whites manager
New Leeds manager Neil Warnock
Leeds United have confirmed the appointment of Neil Warnock as manager.
The widely-travelled 63-year-old has agreed a contract which commits him to the Elland Road club until the end of next season.
Leeds chairman Ken Bates said: “We believe the appointment is arguably the most important we have made.
“The objective was to appoint a manager who had for a proven track record of getting teams promoted and in Neil we have a man whose record is second to none.
“We want to be in the Premier League and we will support Neil in the quest to get us there.”

Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 09:58 PMThe first challendge for Neil is to thin out the dross brought in by Grayson. Grayson brought in so many players who simply have no future here. Let's hope Neil can bring in Derry from QPR. Derry would make a fine leader on the pitch for Warnock.

Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 08:46 PM#12 trindy, very well put. Bates, Harvey and Williams were obviously plotting Grayson's downfall back in December, and their amateurish lack of preparation and lamentable failure to have a replacement ready in the wings, could prove very costly indeed. Still, Saturday's win is welcome, although we mustn't get carried away cos we were totally outplayed by the bottom placed team for most of the match. I hope Neil Warnock can improve the squad considerably because we've got far sterner tests coming up. MOT

Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 06:01 PMTo be honest - I don't know about NW - he has a proven record, no argue about that - but I watched a QPR home game last season. I hope he does not make Leeds United play football the same way - even though the efficiency is beyond the arguable. Anyway - congratulation to him with the appointment and to the club - the squad and the backroom staff with three crucial points. Let us hope this is the first step out of darknes. Personally I don't mind us staying in the championship for another season if we spend the meantime building a rocksolid squad for the future. MOT

Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 05:51 PMMuch as I'm as optimistic now as everyone else on this site, I can't completely dismiss the shoddy treatment of Grayson in the past fourteen months. His undoing was the poor run over that Christmas period, so Bates chose not to give him anything to spend in the January, when all we needed was a bit of strengthening with quality permanent players for the final push. Then, when no new players arrived in the summer, it was clear that Grayson and his team were being hung out to dry. It had the same effect on morale as Phil Brown's sitting his players down on the pitch in the rain at half-time. So, maybe Grayson should have walked a year ago when he must have known the writing was on the wall. It's a shame we've lost several good players who were thoroughly committed to the Club in the meantime; and, of course, Gradel was one of Grayson's finds when he wasn't making the first team at Leicester. Grayson did his best, but sadly for him, this job came along too early in his managerial career. I hope Warnock won't suffer death by a thousand cuts during our first seaon back in the Premiership, but I imagine that, if he does, he's well equipped to cope ! Good luck, Grayson and good luck, Warnock, and thanks for trying, Redfearn. Now let's do a Blackpool on Blackpool !

Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 04:27 PMWell done LUST! A little pressure on Uncle Ken and he buys us a present in the form of a very commendable new manager. Certainly brought a smile back to a few fans faces and united (most of us) again. Not been a bad weekend MOT! WE ARE LEEDS, WE ARE LEEDS, WE ARE.....

Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 04:13 PMWhilst i welcome the appointment of Warnock, the delay in appointing him could ultimately have cost us any small chance of promotion this season. The Chairman still has much to answer for regarding the way he has failed to invest transfer and cup tie money into the team, and a long list of other things that are well documented. The "Bates Out" mob are more than a vocal minority Rybackerboard, as you would know if you stood on the terraces at away matches. You are as out of touch with the average supporter as our esteemed Chairman I am afraid. We are behind the team and manager 100%, as we were with Grayson, but as for the Chairman it will take more than a good managerial appointment to excuse the past 7 years. If he is serious about promotion and gets his chequebook out in the summer then we shall see .....

Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 04:11 PMPerhaps the age of the hapless, mindless excuse has now come to an end - at least for the season or two that NW will be in charge. Give it to us straight Neil - that's what the Leeds faithful deserve. And give us a team capable of consistently grinding out the results - that's what all at this great club deserve. Go on clone of Wilko, carve yourself a bit of LUFC history - get us promoted, this year or next. MOT

Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 03:49 PMNeil Warnock should keep it plain and simple? Most Leeds fans will hopefully give him time to work with the players and let him decide either to push for the play offs or strengthen and rebuild for next season. Next season is the time to try for the premiership, we will not last five minutes up there at the moment. Our defence has more holes than a Yorkshire teabag.

Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 03:46 PMWarnock is the man for the job but bates had to pull a rabbit from the hat as he new the small minority (yeh right) had him on the ropes ! And that to me is telling me the small minority that we was getting to him even the YEP backed the small minority up and im still out brigade but he done the right thing by bringing warnock in ! people are forgetting the false promises of the last 3 transfer windows? bates fault or graysons. We will never know but bates cant hide behind warnock next transfer window because wont let him! enjoy your evening this small minority is of to see noel at sheffield motorpoint dontworry i will give a rendition of marching on together when or if we see any blunts or fowls xxx while your sat watching tv alot of leeds fans carry the name were ever we go so enjoy your sunday i will xxx

Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 03:46 PMthis is the time for all the division and conflict off the pitch to stop and a concerted effort is made to unite behind the team we're all supposed to love. bates isn't going anywhere, end of. he has now given us the best possible man for the job and it is an absolute nailed on fact that colin wouldn't have come to us unless he had absolute cast iron guarantees regarding the level of financial support he would have during the summer and beyond. this is genuinely a new dawn, as someone else said it's a blast back to the days when wilko first came aboard, so let's harness this optimism and have a real go at supporting the manager and the team and see where it takes us MOT
