United ran out 5-2 winners during a one-sided game at Chester City, while Neil Warnock's Palace squad scored either side of half-time to seal a 2-1 victory over Hereford United at Selhurst Park.
The second-round clash in Yorkshire will see the return to Elland Road of Shaun Derry, who left Leeds to rejoin his former club in January of this year.
Derry – recently appointed as Palace's club captain – was signed by United from Selhurst Park in 2005 and made 78 appearances for Leeds but he was allowed to return to London after failing to establish himself in the plans of ex-Elland Road boss Dennis Wise.
Elsewhere in round two, Roy Keane will be looking for a second win in as many months over former club Nottingham Forest after his side Sunderland were drawn against the Championship newcomers.
The cup clash comes hot on the heels of a pre-season friendly between the teams, and Keane would readily accept a repeat of the 1-0 victory produced by Sunderland at the City Ground.
Premier League teams not involved in Europe were entered into the draw after last night's remaining first-round matches, with several being handed potentially awkward ties.
Newcastle United will be away to Coventry City, while top-flight newcomers Hull City go to Swansea and Middlesbrough have been paired with League One side Yeovil at home.
Elsewhere, Hartlepool host West Brom, Macclesfield have a trip to West Ham and Manchester City – who qualified for the UEFA Cup due to their disciplinary record but are not exempt from second-round duties – face a long trip to Brighton.
Blackburn will play Grimsby at Ewood Park, Wigan welcome Notts County to the JJB Stadium and Fulham host Leicester. Bolton have a home tie against Northampton.

lNeil Kilkenny’s hopes of winning an Olympic medal have ended after the Australian national football squad were eliminated from the Games in Beijing.
The Socceroos were beaten 1-0 by the Ivory Coast yesterday, leaving them second bottom in Group A behind the African nation and Argentina.
Kilkenny has missed Leeds United’s first two matches of the season as a result of his involvement in China and will also be absent from the squad to face Oldham Athletic at Elland Road on Saturday.
Meanwhile, United’s League One rivals Southend have sold player of the year Nicky Bailey to Charlton for 750,000.
The midfielder, 24, scored 12 goals in 54 appearances last season.
