Leeds United: Kandol back in the frame

Tresor Kandol could return to contention for Leeds United's forthcoming clash with Millwall after the club confirmed that his latest hamstring strain is minor.

Kandol took no part in Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Southampton after sustaining a fresh injury in the run-up to the League One game at St Mary's.

The 28-year-old recently recovered from a more serious hamstring problem which kept him on the sidelines for a month but Leeds have played down fears that Kandol is set for another extended spell of rehabilitation.

Manager Simon Grayson has used him infrequently this season – the striker's term has been punctuated by injury, family issues, and a three-match ban incurred in October – but Leeds are running short of forwards with Mike Grella nursing a hamstring strain of his own and

Grayson said: "Kandol got another hamstring strain on Friday morning but I don't think it's anything major. It was a little bit tight and we didn't want to risk him."

United have not been without their injury problems this season but the rearrangement of the clash with Millwall to a Monday night to accommodate a live television broadcast has given Grayson's struggling players an extra two days to recover.

Kandol featured as a substitute in United's recent games at Huddersfield Town and Tranmere Rovers but the absence of him and Grella meant Paul Dickov was the only recognised striker on Leeds' bench at Southampton.

Winger Gary McSheffrey sustained a cut to his head on Saturday, leading to his substitution after 62 minutes, but he is also expected to be available for the Millwall game.
