Leeds United: Grayson's triple swoop

Busy Simon Grayson has bolstered his options by launching a successful triple beat-the-deadline raid to land Tony Capaldi, Hogan Ephraim and David Martin.

The Leeds United boss also loaned out David Somma and Alan Sheehan on a whirlwind afternoon of activity ahead of the closure of the emergency loan window at 5pm yesterday.

And out-of-favour Cardiff defender Capaldi, 28 – who has signed until January 4 – could make his debut in Sunday's FA Cup second-round tie at Kettering.

The international left-back, who can also operate on the left-hand side of midfield, is well known to Whites coach Glynn Snodin, who has worked with him with Northern Ireland.

Jet-paced right-winger Ephraim, 21, has joined from QPR until January 1, having featured just four times in the Championship for Rangers this term, making two starts.

He is ineligible for Sunday's tie.

Liverpool keeper Martin, 23, who had a successful loan spell at Leicester last season, has joined until December 28 and will cover for Casper Ankergren with Shane Higgs currently injured.

Left-back Sheehan, whose days at United look increasingly numbered, has signed for League One rivals Swindon and will stay with the Robins until January 4.

South Africa forward Somma has linked up with Chesterfield until January 2, while reserve defender Andrew Milne has headed to Steve Staunton's Darlington until the new year.
