Ross McCormack says a resurgent Leeds United will keep “plugging away” relentlessly in a bid to put themselves firmly in the promotion race in December.
Saturday’s 4-2 success at Huddersfield Town made it three successive victories for Neil Warnock’s side who suddenly sit 11th in the Championship and just four points off the play-offs.
With the prospect of another financial injection in the new year from new owners GFH Capital, United’s previous run of seven league games without a victory is suddenly a distant memory with the Whites now as short as 4-1 with some firms to win promotion.
A further positive is the return of McCormack – United’s top scorer last term who was finally restored to the starting line up at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday after nearly three months out with an ankle injury.
The 26-year-old feels November’s cruel 1-0 defeat to Millwall was the undoubted turning point with the goal-getter quietly optimistic his side can creep into promotion contention with a quiet run up the rails.
“Since Millwall we’ve set out to be really solid and then we’ve got players who can really attack teams and hurt teams,” said McCormack, whose side next visit 16th-placed Derby County on Saturday.
“We’re not going to get carried away – we’ve got three wins out of three but we know what can happen in this league where anyone can beat anyone.
“We’ll keep our feet on the ground and keep plugging away.
“It’s all about momentum now – if we can go to Derby next week and keep playing the way we’re playing then I think we’ve got a chance.
“You’ve only got to look at Reading last season to see that anything can happen.
“During the season when my team Cardiff got beat in the play-off final, Blackpool came from nowhere to get promoted too. It’s definitely possible and we just need to keep doing what we’re doing and hopefully the points will add up.”
