Leeds United v Watford: Warnock plans ‘gung-ho’ approach

Neil Warnock plans to take a “gung-ho” approach to Saturday’s clash with Watford in an effort to bring fresh impetus to Leeds United’s season.

Warnock has vowed to throw caution to the wind this weekend after seeing his side drop into the bottom half of the Championship after Tuesday night’s 1-0 loss at Burnley. The United manager is contemplating key changes to his line-up and is weighing up the possibility of handing a first competitive start to Ryan Hall after the winger staked his claim by scoring four goals in an under-21 fixture against Derby County yesterday.

Hall has made little impact at Elland Road since joining Leeds on loan from Southend United three weeks ago and he failed to make Warnock’s 18-man squad for Tuesday’s match at Turf Moor.

But he ran riot in yesterday’s development league fixture – a match which United won 5-0 – and his performance has put pressure on United’s boss to blood him more seriously against Watford.

Revealing his plan to employ a more attacking strategy at Elland Road this weekend, Warnock said: “We’ve got to say to hell with it now. We’ve got to go gung-ho.

“Let’s throw some players in, change things and have a go on Saturday.

“I’m so disappointed when I think about where we should be in the league, the points we’ve thrown away and the teams we’ve played.”

Hall’s four-goal haul against Derby included a fine free-kick in the second half and he also hit a post as Derby struggled to contain Neil Redfearn’s development side.

The 24-year-old has made only one first-team appearance so far, featuring in the closing stages of United’s defeat at home to Birmingham City on October 27.
