United's begin their last 10 matches at home to Millwall on Monday night.

Higgs said: "I've missed a huge chunk of the season and I've had to take that on the chin but we've got 10 games left and promotion still needs to be won. I feel like I can play a part.

"I don't expect to get my place back but I'd like to think that the manager will seriously consider me on the basis of what I did previously. It puts a thought in his mind for the next game because I've played for the reserves and felt comfortable.

"Casper's played in more games than me and bigger games than me, and he's not going to let me back in without a fight. But you have to be selfish in this game and there's only one place to play for. I want it back, definitely.

"After what I've gone through this season and the massive down of five months out, to help finish off the season and win promotion would make it all worthwhile."
