Leeds United: No return ticket for ex-Whites striker
David Healy is unlikely to make a sentimental return to Leeds United.
The Northern Ireland striker proved a big hit during his time with the Whites, who have been linked with a fresh move for the forward who found himself on the fringes at parent club Sunderland last term.
Healy spent almost three years at United before leaving Eland Road in the summer of 2007 in a 1m move to Fulham following Leeds' relegation to League One.
Little over 12 months later Healy – 30 in August – moved to Wearside in a 1.2m deal when he was brought in by ex-Black Cats boss Roy Keane.
Healy is yet to start a league game for the Wearsiders and made just 10 substitute appearances in the Premiership in 2008-09, scoring just once – in the 2-0 win over Stoke City in February.
But, despite a largely disappointing campaign, he is eager to prove himself at the Stadium of Light and lay down some roots, with the north east club set to appoint Steve Bruce as their new manager.
And Healy is understood to be unwilling to drop down two levels to League One to United, who are believed to have expressed an interest in signing their former star on loan ahead of the closure of the transfer deadline earlier this year.
Healy quickly became a fans' favourite at Elland Road after joining from Preston in October 2004.
He was the club's joint top-scorer alongside Brian Deane with seven goals in his first campaign. He followed up by finishing joint top- scorer in the 2005-06 season with Rob Hulse, on 14 goals.
In the following campaign, Healy was United's leading marksman with 10 goals.
