Leeds United: Leeds sweat over Beckford fitness

Leeds United are sweating over the fitness of top-scorer Jermaine Beckford ahead of their first-ever league visit to Hereford United tomorrow.

Beckford came off as a precaution with a hamstring niggle - ironically on the opposite leg to the one which forced him to sit out four games in the run-up to Christmas - in the 65th minute of Sunday's 3-1 success at Stockport and is a doubt for the Bulls encounter.

Grayson said: "We've got one or two knocks from the Stockport game.

"But hopefully the majority of the side who played at the weekend and the squad that travelled will be available for selection.

"Jermaine is one we are assessing - he is a doubt, but there's every chance he could play as well.

"It was his other hamstring that he felt was a bit tight (at Stockport). We just felt it was an opportunity - we wanted to change it around a little bit as he was feeling uncomfortable with the situation himself.

"And as it turned out, it wasn't a bad substitution with Malcolm (Christie) coming on and scoring as well."

Despite the Bulls being entrenched in the League One drop zone, Grayson is expecting nothing less than a tough battle against Graham Turner's troops - with only Leicester, Millwall, Southend and Northampton having conceded fewer goals at home this term.

He said: "Hereford will be a tough nut to crack. They are a hard-working team who are going to love Leeds United coming to Edgar Street.

"It's going to be a difficult game, but it's a challenge we're looking forward to.

"We know Hereford are going to work hard and try and stop us from playing and we have to match them.

"I'm led to believe Hereford played very well when they came to Leeds and made it very difficult, but it's another game we feel we can go and win."
