Leeds United: In-form Snodgrass named in Scotland squad
IN-FORM Leeds United winger Robert Snodgrass has been named in Scotland’s squad for next week’s friendly in Slovenia.
The 24-year-old has been outstanding for the Whites in recent months and will be seeking to transform his club form onto the international stage in Koper on February 29.
But there’s no place in the squad once again for United’s 16-goal top-scorer Ross McCormack.
Snodgrass’ last action for the Tartan Army came at the start of September, when he came on as a late sub in the 1-0 Euro 2012 qualifying win over Lithuania at Hampden Park.
An ankle injury forced the midfielder to miss Craig Levein’s side’s critical qualifying double-header against Spain and Liechtenstein in October and he also missed the friendly clash in Cyprus the following month.
Boss Levein has handed a recall to Craig Gordon, with the Sunderland keeper back in the Scotland set-up after a year of injury hell. He is joined in the squad by Blackpool wonderkid Matt Phillips, with the English-born winger the shock name in Levein’s party for the clash tomorrow week.
Phillips, who has hit 15 goals this term, qualifies through the grandparent rule and will commit his future to the Scots if the paperwork ratifying his switch is received by the SFA.
There’s no place for Huddersfield striking sensation Jordan Rhodes.
Darren O’Dea is in the Republic of Ireland squad for their friendly with the Czech Republic in Dublin next Wednesday.

Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 10:00 AMIt's a joke that Rossco isn't even getting a look in - Levein doesn't have a clue what's going on in the Scotland camp. Last time out from a team of 22 he only short listed 3 strikers and when 1 pulled out injured he replaced them with another Midfielder. Rossco and Rhodes both deserve a call up to be included in the team and Scotland are going to fail on both the European and World stage whilst he's in charge. The SFA need to sort it out and get rid before he destroys a decent up and coming Scotland crop! But being an Englishman….. it’s quite comical seeing a clown in charge of a nation!
