Leeds United: Grayson on loan alert

Leeds United boss Simon Grayson is not ruling out some incoming activity ahead of next Friday's loan transfer deadline.

Grayson admits it could be a busy week, with the Whites chief keen to cover his bases ahead of a frenetic run of games to the turn of the year.

Grayson – who has revealed striker Enoch Showunmi turned down the chance to link up with League Two promotion-chasers Rotherham United – admits one or two fringe players could also leave for loan spells.

It promises to be a balancing act for Grayson, who is aware he can't leave himself short, while mindful that certain players have been starved of game time for much of this term.

It remains to be seen what transpires with the likes of David Prutton and Showunmi who are both in need of games, with others such as Paul Huntington and Alan Sheehan – who recently returned from loan spells at Stockport County and Oldham Athletic – also seemingly well down the pecking order.

Grayson said: "The loan market shuts next Friday for six weeks, so I've got to be careful I don't leave myself short over a busy period of time in the lead-up to Christmas.

"But it might be the case that one or two go out to play some games and we might get one or two in – we'll see how it goes.

On Showunmi, Grayson added: "Enoch felt it was an opportunity he didn't want to take (at Rotherham).

"Basically, I'm open with the players and when anyone enquires about any of them, I'll give them the consideration.

"Ultimately, I'll make the final decision if it's worthwhile for the football club and the individual and the opportunity came for him (Showunmi) to go to Rotherham and we've had enquiries for three or four of our other players as well and nothing has come to fruition yet."

Meanwhile, Grayson admits he won't be pursuing his interest further in trialist defender Walter Garcia.

The 25-year-old Argentine centre-half, a free agent after leaving MLS side New York Red Bulls, had been training with the Whites for the past week – and featured in the 4-3 behind-closed-doors defeat to Middlesbrough on Tuesday.

Grayson said: "We looked at him for about a week or so and just felt he wasn't going to be any better than what we've got at the football club.

"But there's no harm in looking and that's what we'll continue to do with a few other trialists over the next few weeks and months."
