Leeds United forced to wait on Bothroyd

Leeds United may have to wait to land striking target Jay Bothroyd – who admits to being "flattered" to be linked with the club.

The transfer-listed Wolves striker is busy assessing his options before deciding on where his future lies, with several clubs in the running to sign him, according to a spokesperson.

The 26-year-old has a year left on his Wanderers deal, but his days at Molineux appear numbered, with the forward omitted from the 24-man squad which recently went on tour to Scotland – staying behind in the Midlands to train with the reserves.

Whites boss Gary McAllister, who worked with Bothroyd during his time at Coventry, has seen a bid rising to 300,000 accepted by Wolves, but Bothroyd is taking his time before deciding on where his next destination will be.

His spokesperson said: "Jay is flattered to be linked with Leeds United. But he will be making his decision a little later on in the transfer window.

"There are a few other interested parties. But Jay realises Leeds are a huge, huge club and he is considering this option.

"Jay has huge respect for Gary McAllister, having worked with him before. He knows what he can bring to a football club."

"Jay has one year left (at Wolves) and is taking his time to make a decision.

"At this moment, there is no rush and he is concentrating on getting fit for the season, regardless of where he is."

Cardiff City have also been linked with Bothroyd, with Wolves boss Mick McCarthy recently stating that "three or four Championship clubs" have lodged interest in the Londoner.
