Leeds United: Ex-Whites boss Grayson appointed new Huddersfield Town manager

Huddersfield Town have confirmed the appointment of Simon Grayson as their new manager on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

The 42-year-old was dismissed as Leeds boss on February 1 but has made a quick return to the dug-out, replacing Lee Clark at the helm of the npower League One club following his sacking last week.

Grayson, who has led both Leeds and Blackpool to promotion from League One, will take his former Elland Road backroom staff of Glyn Snodin and Ian Miller to the Galpharm Stadium and will be briefed with the task of taking Huddersfield up this season.

It will not be easy, though, as despite just three defeats this season under Clark, the Terriers are currently seven points adrift of second-placed Sheffield United in the table, though have a nine-point cushion ahead of the chasing play-off pack.

Chairman Dean Hoyle insisted that promotion is Grayson’s number one remit.

He told the club’s official website: “We are well positioned in the league and I believe we are still in a position to challenge for automatic promotion this season, but we do have a gap to make up to second place.

“I believe this is still achievable given the players we have at this club.

“Simon has a proven track record of success in this division. He knows League One inside out and he knows exactly what it takes to get teams promoted to the Championship.

“Throughout his managerial career he has operated with the pressure to succeed and expectations that go along with that.

“We are delighted he has taken up the challenge and we look forward to working with him.”

44leedsbulldog...Why do you need to hear from IL? Don't you know what to think without first consulting the party chairman to get you instructions? If you're struggling for an original thought ask your mate bramley white who once had one, it was a long time ago but you never know, he might be due another.

Good luck Simon and Huddersfield, great guy, committed, honest, hard working and dignified, leaves Leeds with head held high. Unlike our Chairman and Board of Directors. Simon Grayson could walk through the crowd at Elland Road at any future game and be greeted with thanks and good will by the Leeds fans, our Chairman and Directors would be scared to do that - says it all.

I heard SG on Radio Leeds this morning saying there were some very hurtful things said in recent weeks along with untruths as well. He has chosen to act with dignity though by not going into this in depth. I wish him all the best in his new role and will remember the good days especially OT, White Hart Lane and the Emirates. Maybe we will be seeing SG at ER next season but there again, we could also be two divisions apart in in August. Who knows? as Greavesie said "It's a funny old game"

Much deserved swift return for SG. He has made his mark in LUFC history because without him we'd still be stuck in L1. He over-achieved last season and became a victim of his own success by not being able to better due to having his best players players sold by Bates. Udders have got a good manager. who will get them up.

Whatever people say Simon did his job for Leeds at the time when we needed him. Dennis Wise got us relegated then f*cked off, Gary McAllister couldn't beat Histon and the team looked like we was going to implode! When Simon arrived, like it or not, we was struggling in league 1 and not going anywhere. FACTS ARE - HE GOT US PROMOTED, WE BEAT THE SCUM, AND WE WON GAMES WITH SOME ATTACKING FOOTBALL. At the end of the day Simon did what his remit was - get us promoted and established in the Championship. With a few more years experience he will make a good Championship manager but the relationship had come out of the honeymoon stage and it was time to part company. I would like to thank Simon for his hard work in re-establishing Leeds, Neil Warnock is the right man now to take us forward and I will clap when or if he returns, although I do not wish he gets a result against us if he brings another team with him.

Not at all surprised Simon Grayson is so quickly back into management and glad it's in Yorkshire. Good luck Simon and hope one day to see you back at Elland Road with Leeds.

as Michelle of the Resistance would say "leeeson carefooly, I will say zees only wance"... Schmeichel sold from under SG during pre-season, had to be replaced urgently cos Lonergan deal held up, got in Rachubka (didn't work out). Gradel sold last minute of transfer window, replacement not found (or allowed?). We are told Gwyn Williams is the ace scout, and Harvey and Bates handle the transfer negotiations and contracts, and also vetoed Grayson's targets and told him who's affordable, so who was really at fault, and whose players really are the Browns, Forssells, Vayrynens etc? Perhaps, just perhaps, that explains why Grayson hardly played those guys, because he didn't want them for starters? Just saying... I really really hope that Warnock is the man to take us up, but if the squad is further asset-stripped by Bates, and Harvey still allows the better players to leave on Bosmans yet signs the dross on lengthy contracts, even Alex Whiskeynose would struggle. The axis of evil will need to co-operate with NW for us to succeed. MOT

Wonder what the Hudd's Team Sheet will read like next year? Rachuba in goal, Defence including Bromby, Bruce, Connelly - Midfield including Brown, Vrynnen, Sam and a forward line of Forssell, Paynter - That should clear the decks for a couple of Neil's Inspired Signings!!! - Sad thing is though they will proably only be loan's from ER - Heaven forbid he signs them !!!! Based on Simon's dubious transfer's we should get Jordan Rhodes in return !!!! - Wish SG all the best as a Leeds Fan (Not sure if that was the right thing to say to your new fans though!!!!) But agree with the comments regarding Warnock - Wouldnt want to go into a dressing room at half time for his Team Talk knowing i have just showed as much commitment as Bates has to the 'Transparency To Football Ownership' Campagn!!!!!!!!
