Leeds United: Defenders top of Grayson's transfer list
Simon Grayson admitted new defenders were the priority at the top of his shopping list after suffering the first defeat of his reign as Leeds United boss.
United lost 2-0 to Carlisle United on Saturday after conceding first-half goals to Danny Graham and Michael Bridges. The failings in United's performance left Grayson to confirm that defensive reinforcements were needed at Elland Road.
Inherent frailty within Leeds' backline and a chronic shortage of clean sheets were symptoms of the first half of their League One season and the problems appeared again as Graham and Bridges struck in the space of eight minutes to inflict United's 10th league defeat in Grayson's third match as manager.
Grayson is aiming to guide Leeds back into League One's play-off positions and still retains hope of climbing towards the automatic promotion places, but he was stepping up his search for defenders today in the wake of Carlisle's victory.
United have made one signing since the transfer window opened on January 1, recruiting striker Lee Trundle on a month's loan from Bristol City, but Grayson is hoping to make progress in the market before next weekend's visit to Brighton.
Asked if defensive recruits were his main target, United's boss said: "Based on this, probably.
"We've got a decent number of midfielders and we've brought Lee Trundle in, so our defence is the main area where I need to strengthen now."
