Burnley 1 Leeds United 2

Leeds United brought their pre-season campaign to an impressive end with a dominant 2-1 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor.

A weakened United side were too strong for their Premier League opponents, and the convincing win ended a week of three high-profile fixtures in which the League One club have remained unbeaten.

Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United were both held to draws by Grayson's side in the past seven days, and a late effort from David Edgar was not enough to deny Leeds a morale-boosting win at Turf Moor.

Grayson was forced to withdraw Jermaine Beckford from his starting line-up shortly before kick-off after the striker was struck down by illness, but his team took the game to Burnley and deserved the half-time lead given to them by Mike Grella.

The striker's superb finish from the edge of the box on 36 minutes made the most of a long period of pressure in which Bradley Johnson hit the post with a free-kick and Enoch Showunmi dragged a poor finish wide from six yards out.

Burnley produced only one chance of note before the break when Chris Eagles shot wide in injury-time, and Leeds continued to look dangerous in the second half. Burnley were effectively sunk when substitute Andy Robinson finished off Jonathan Howson's cross to the far post.

Edgar replied 14 minutes from time with a close-range goal but it failed to avert the Clarets' defeat.

Fabian Delph, meanwhile, was missing from United's squad at Burnley, an omission blamed by Leeds on a knock sustained in training on Friday, but speculation linking the midfielder with a move to Manchester City is rife and an offer from Eastlands is expected in the next 48 hours.
