Bristol City v Leeds United: Redfearn calm on long-term prospects
Neil Redfearn on the touchline at Ashton Gate.
Neil Redfearn remained cool on the prospect of being the next Leeds United manager after his caretaker spell in charge brought three points at wintry Ashton Gate.
The home side finished with nine men after having defender James Wilson and winger Yannick Bolasie sent off on a treacherous pitch and goals from Robert Snodgrass, Ross McCormack and Luciano Becchio made it a day to remember for Redfearn, who described at as “an honour” to be in charge of a Leeds team.
He added: “I feel I am capable of doing the manager’s job and have the necessary experience in the game.
“But the decision will be made from above and I am not stupid. I realise some big names are being linked with the vacancy.
“I will just keep doing the job the board have asked of me and if I am teeing things up for someone else to take charge then so be it.
“For now I am just delighted to have helped the players get a great result and rebuild some confidence.”
Snodgrass opened the scoring in the 40th minute with a low drive from McCormack’s pass after City had dominated without finding a killer finish.
Just before the break Wilson sent McCormack tumbling as he threatened to break clear and as last man was rightly sent off by referee James Linington.
Bolasie was booked twice in as many minutes for fouls early in the second half and from then on City’s nine men struggled to prevent a rout.
McCormack made it 2-0 with another left-foot shot in the 79th minute and after a succession of chances went begging, Becchio blasted the third past David James in stoppage time.
City manager Derek McInnes said: “I thought the referee got one sending-off right and the other wrong. Wilson didn’t get a touch on the ball so he had to go, but the red card for Bolasie was very harsh.
“The Leeds player made the most of the challenge for his first booking and there was no intent to bring his opponent down when the second yellow card was issued.
“The decisions affected the game, but we can’t blame the result on them. We were naive in certain situations and need to learn the lessons from that.
“I was short of defenders through injury even before Wilson’s sending-off so I will be trying to bring someone in on loan as soon as possible.”
City were on top until the Snodgrass goal, but may live to rue the decision to sell top scorer Nicky Maynard to West Ham.
Albert Adomah’s fifth-minute shot was well saved by Andy Lonergan, who later denied the same player with a more straightforward stop.
Lonergan was more fortunate in the 26th minute when he spilled a shot from former Leeds midfielder Neil Kilkenny, but no City player was on hand to net the rebound.

Premier League NOT Premier Inn
Monday, February 6, 2012 at 02:51 PMOk, are you okay to pay Svens wages yourself then, as Bates wont, and also what about the millions he would demand he had to spend too ???

Monday, February 6, 2012 at 08:09 AMWhoever it is we need to limit our liabilities and give them a week to week contract. The issue is the board, not the manager and i do not expect the current regime to be in place by the start of next season. Ken - do the decent thing and engage with LUST to arrange your terms for an exit and let them find a new investor. You have lost the club and your time is up.

Monday, February 6, 2012 at 02:19 AMSomeone said earlier that great players make poor managers; well, big Jack wasn't too bad at both, but he's a bit of an exception. On the basis that the reverse is also true, I now know who should be given the job... Fede Bessone ! Back to the real deBate; I looked up Santa's entry in Wikipedia today. Apparently, he made his millions producing raw materials for the construction industry - might explain his obsession with building next to football clubs. Oh, and he also had a dairy herd for a while; presumably where he learnt the knack of milking and creaming off ! I think he paid £1.5 million for the club; I wonder what it's worth today, and how much he's taken from earnings for himself. The Chairman of the club that played at the Emirates in the Third Round last year said recently on Radio 5 that they got £1,050,000 plus TV money, so we must have earned at least that; but where is it ? Also on Radio 5, back during the transfer period early in the season, they did a piece on the life of a coach, and followed Mervyn Day for a week. He said he expended untold time and air miles watching players then enquiring the price of potential recruits, only having to say every time, "Sorry, can't afford him" ! This is what really undermined Grayson and gave him the same haunted look that McClaren had while he was England manager. K-man said ages ago that he wouldn't allow us to buy any players expecting Premiership-level deals because they would cause bad feeling amongst the others, so he forced Grayson to buy lots of cheap mediocrity in the hope that he could develop them into players that might make it into the first team; which in itself caused bad feeling because few were likely to cut it. And now he's come out and criticised him for it. What troubles me is that Kilkenny, Johnson, Gradel and Howson were all passionate about the club but were let down by the unrealistic wage constraints, which affected the quality of players coming in, imposed by Miser B ! Therefore, when he appoints someone cheap and useless, we must starve him of income by staying away, and plan a Fans' Cooperative takeover to achieve what he never will.

Monday, February 6, 2012 at 01:15 AMBates and Harvey, two non-football men and definitely two non Leeds fans, might get this wrong. One of the best-credentialled and currently available managers in the world expresses a desire to be Leeds gaffer and we haven't signed him up yet? Years ago we had a choice between Terry wide-boy Cockney chancer Venables, and proven basket-case improver results-on-the-board man Guus Hiddink, and we got that one wrong as well. This could be the week and the decision we all look back on and say this is where it all turned round and we got this badboy back on the rails again MOT.

Monday, February 6, 2012 at 12:20 AMErikkson - Oh God, has he applied....... If he does expect him to spend big money on Rubbish - At least SG got them for free !!! I am a big believer in right man, right place, right time.... Football is the ONLY job where you can fail, get sacked, and move onto a BIGGER Club if your name fits !!!!!! Same old names get wheeled out, Jones, Warnock, Erikkson, Bruce, Davies etc, etc.... Personally, i like Teams that have Honesty and Effort about them.... Tony Pulis, Mick McCarthy, Ian Holloway (He is worth the entrance fee for the after match interview !!!) or even Ady Boothroyd - He is making a real difference @Northampton..

Monday, February 6, 2012 at 12:00 AMThink we can write Poyet out of the list - Nothing to do with him doing his best to make a 'Come And get Me Speech' - More to do with his choice of players - He comes, we start every game with Paynter up front !!!! - Anyway - Would love to know from all you knowledgeable fans who we should get in the loan window !!! - Am fedup with manager talk cos whoever comes in will simply be picking from the same SG Team - Bearing in mind Bate's cronies have already stated that 'More from the Current Players' is order of the day - Personally i suspect that Redfearn is Guaranteed the position at least until the summer - And a decision can be taken dependant on where we are then - Also means, that if by some MIRACLE we did gain promotion, we may be able to attract the type of manager that WILL drive us FORWARD....Could be worse guys...... At least our chairman knows we CAN get Relagated unlike the 'Venkys' @ Blackburn....

Premier League NOT Premier Inn
Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 11:19 PM@55 - You don't really make any sense ? What credentilas has Warnock got ? Well, what about a proven track record of getting teams promoted from this league ? I'm not going to argue with you about anything anymore as i just think you're on the wind up. Best thing to think of things is this way;- How many Leeds fans would want Warnock, and how many Eriksson as our new manager ? The answer would be a landslide in Warnocks favour (love him or hate him), and you know that's true. Eriksson is an average manager that always lands big jobs becuase of his history in Italy about 20 years ago, he's bmanaged about 20 teams since then, and he's been RUBBISH, ABSOLUTELY RUBBISH - ASK LEICESTER FANS.. He's too busy saying well...well... and getting his leg over where possible.

Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 10:57 PMremember these quotes from a Yorkshireman in 2007 when LUFC were relegated. '' As a proud Yorkshireman, I'll be among the first to offer LUFC my commiserations. Well, I will as soon as I can stop laughing anyway !'' That qoute was from no other than Neil Warnock ! Well, I for one don't want him at my club !!

Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 09:00 PMCould be Redfearn - winning start and players respecting him etc. But anyone remember Mr Carver? In an ideal world Lambert would be brill but its not gonna happen. It's gonna be Warnock cos he is available and won't be able to resist it. I think he will get it and it will go one of two ways - he will either do a Wilko (quick progress and promotion) ..........or a Clough (44day distaster!)
