Rumours abound that Middlesbrough will auction David Wheater next month as part of an attempt to beat down the wage bill at the Riverside.
The 23-year-old is one of the more valuable assets on Boro's books but he is out of contract in the summer and serious bids for him in the January transfer window are unlikely to be ignored.
Wheater is a talented centre-back who was on the verge of a first England cap two years ago.
His performance will be pivotal for Boro as the Teesside club attempt to stop Leeds' from securing a seventh home win of the season.
