Lee Spurling: Horsforth golfer's triple triumph
A talented young Horsforth golfer has swung to success for the third year running.
Lee Spurling, nicknamed The Wolf, has won the Stonham Barns East Anglican Under-12s Cup again – this time with a round of 64 for 18 holes.
Dad Ian, his coach and trainer since he was just three, said: "Lee is thrilled to bits because he's created history.
"There are not many people in the world that have won the same competition three times in a row."
He added: "My son is one of the elite in the world – he's proved it by doing this."
Lee, still only 11, has won 76 competitions since he started competing aged seven.
Millions across the country will be able to see the Horsforth golfing genius in action later this year as he is to feature in a Cutting Edge documentary on Channel 4 called My Child Champion, which is due to be screened in December.
The camera crew even recreated the moment when Ian placed a 1,000-1 bet with bookmakers William Hill that his son will win a major golf tournament by the time he is 25. He said those odds had now been slashed to 150-1.
