Lawnswood School triumph at Leeds Schools Badminton Championships
Lawnswood School took 27 students to the Leeds Schools Badminton Championships.

It was the largest team ever attending the event from a single school and bolstered by the previous weeks successes the players were looking to come away with some medals.

Coach, Alistair Young, told Headingley Today: "Even I could not imagine how well our players would do on the day. Last year we came away with three medals".
The results for Lawnswood this year are, 19 Medals won; 31 top three finishes; 87 individual game wins.
The highlights of the day were, rising star Dominic Gorsden became a double Under 12s Leeds Schools champion.
Headteacher, Milan Davidovic, said: "I am proud that Under Twelve's final ended up being played between two Lawnswood students, David Ellis and Dominic Gorsden". Coach Alistair added, that some of his players, "make it look too easy "! Also in the Under 12s doubles finals were Year 7 pair Jack Greed and Max Magee.
The non-Lawnswood Year 7 players never won a game against any of the Lawnswood Year 7 students.
In the Under 14s, Joe Earnshaw (Year 9) and Aqim Jaffary (Year 8) won the doubles ahead of another Lawnswood pair, Callum McKeown and Jonny Taylor (Both Year 9). Luke Truman (Year 8) came second in the under 14s singles.
Lawnswood also had success in the exclusive Under 16s age group, which has been dominated for more than 15 years by Garforth School. Zhixin Li (Year 10) won the Under 16s female singles, Charlie Magee (Year 10) came second in the Under 16s male singles and together Charlie and Zhixin finished 2nd in the mixed doubles.
