Lawnswood School crowned badminton champions

Lawnswood School's successful badminton team beat Leeds Grammar School in the final of a tournament.

The final score was 19-14 to Lawnswood.

The Leeds Grammar team was expected to be put up tough competition so it was an exciting contest to the end.

Lawnswood's best pairs were Gabe Thompson and Andrew Thomson from Year 12 and Callum McKeown and Joe Earnshaw from Year 9.

Sarah Hart, school business manager, said: Congratulations to them as they secured the victory for the team.

"The new performance coaches were working with Lawnswood players and are clearly very keen to become involved in the success of the club.

"Thanks to staff, parents and pupils for their support.

"As ever it is greatly appreciated. There will be more tournaments after half term and who knows what the club might achieve.

She added: "Congratulations to Alistair Young of Leeds Metropolitan University who has worked untiringly with Lawnswood pupils and to all the coaches and players for making this victory possible!"
