Alistair Young, who is the coach of the badminton club and a student at Leeds Metropolitan University has been the project leader of the CALM Sports Coaching project since October 2006.

The project provides opportunities for university students to volunteer in the PE department at Lawnswood school and students have been involved in after school football and athletics clubs among other sports.

The badminton club has also been developed through this project and has been extremely successful winning a number of medals and becoming a part of the Leeds National Performance Centre for badminton.

Alistair wanted this event to recognise and celebrate the contribution of everyone who has been a part of the success of the badminton club.

Local Weetwood councillor and school governor Sue Bentley praised Alistair's hard work and commitment.

"It's amazing what one person's enthusiasm can do for a whole school – well done and thank you on behalf of the governors who are very aware of the work you have put into this project."
