Hunslet Hawks may move for Aston

Hunslet Hawks are considering making an approach to sign Leeds Rhinos' under-20s centre Aston Wilson on a dual-registration basis.

Hawks boss Paul March played against Wilson – son of former Leeds and Hunslet player Warren – during the clubs' Lazenby Cup clash two days ago.

The former Queens amateur was among Rhinos' try scorers as Hawks were beaten 36-26 and March said: "I spoke to Macca (Rhinos coach Brian McDermott) before the game and asked him if they had anyone in the centre position who might be available.

"He mentioned Aston and the way he went, he's certainly a player we'd look at. He looks the part with his physical presence, he carries the ball strongly and defensively is very strong as well."

Hunslet signed centre Matthew Fox from Dewsbury Rams at the weekend and he will make his debut in Sunday's trial game at home to Keighley Cougars.

Stuart Kain (dead leg) and Neil Lowe (thumb) picked up knocks against Leeds, but March said neither injury is serious.
