Huge turn out for Horsforth 10K

A record entry of more than 500 runners took part in the Horsforth 10k at the weekend. Click here for more details and race results.

In keeping with the bumper entry, the head of the race provided an exciting climax with Knavesmire's Kim Critchley out sprinting top local runner (and proud new dad) Jamil Parapia of Otley AC to win by a single second in 33:04.

Third placed finisher Tom Danby of Pocklington Runners finished a further 30 seconds behind the leading two on the course which started at Woodhouse Grove School at Apperley Bridge.

Completing a good day for Otley AC runners, Julian Mawson headed the M35 category in 6th place overall, while Howard Jeffrey claimed the first M50 prize.

In the ladies race Bingley Harriers dominated proceedings, Pauline Munro, 37:23, claiming first place ahead of club colleague Andrea Dennison, 39:27. Holmfirth's Jacqui Dews was third lady home in 40:35.

For organising club Horsforth Harriers, Alan Squire had a fine run, 36:19, to finish in fourteenth place overall, while the ever improving Becky Hill posted an excellent 42:38.

Radio Aire's fledgling running team all completed the race to smash their fund raising target for the Kids Count charity, which hopes to build a holiday home at Filey for children being treated at St James's Hospital, and their families.

Inspired by what was their first run in many cases at the Horsforth 10K, the team plan to now compete at the Abbey Dash in November.

Proceedings on the day were concluded by Race Director Bob Foulkes making a presentation to Nuffield Hospitals Leeds Managing Director, Mike Flatley (who also ran the race in a respectable 56:09) in recognition of twenty years of sponsorship of the Horsforth 10K by Nuffield Hospitals.
