Date: Sunday, November 25
Competition: Craven league U-11s Division C
Captain for the day was Sam Cole, who took the lead in this thrilling game by urging the Horsforth team on right from the kick off.
Most of the early play was in the visitors half with Joseph Snowdon in fine form in midfield, his constant probing soon created chances for Sam Hughes and Mathew Raby but the Thackley goal led a charmed life.
Andrew Parsons and Sam Cole seemed to have the Thackley forwards under control but it was the visitors who took the lead against the run of play, Lawrence Kellet finding the net. 0-1.
Callum Sharp and Thomas Filarowski were putting in some tough tackles for Horsforth but the Thackley defence snuffed out any danger and the first half fizzled out with Michael Law in the Thackley goal untroubled by any shots on target.
In the second half the play was again mostly in the visitors half but Josh Pheasey and Oliver Poulton had great through balls to the front men intercepted just when a breakthrough looked likely.
Thackley then won a corner which Alex Fox-Bullivant in the home goal did well to palm away but the resulting shot from Joe Barnes found a way through to double the visitors lead 0-2.
Miles Tidman came back on to put pressure on the Thackley defence and when Matthew Raby was put through down the right with 8 minutes to go he let loose a fierce cross shot which flew over the keeper into the far corner,1-2.
The Horsforth boys could now sense the game was still there to be saved and Leon Corneille-Cowell linked with Joseph Snowdon and Sam Hughes to give Matthew Raby the chance to level with a clever lob over the keeper which looked like it might drift wide but landed in the net 2-2.
Josh Pheasey then went close with a header and a Sam Hughes shot thundered into Michael Law's arms, a draw looked the only result until in the last minute Sam Hughes finally beat the keeper with a fierce shot that won the game for Horsforth, it was a deserved victory which looked unlikely for most of the game due to sloppy passing from Horsforth until that barnstorming finish finally snatched victory from defeat
