Horsforth St Margaret's U-11s Reds: Season review
After a traumatic introduction to 11-a-side football, the Red Squad found their level in the Craven League 11C division.
All thoughts were on putting the memories of the pre-season qualifiers firmly behind us as we faced Keighley Shamrocks in the season curtain raiser. We returned from this game a bit shell shocked after an 11-1 loss.

Determined to improve the team got stuck in and lost only once more in the league before the Christmas break, notching fine wins in the process over Thackley, Wilsden and Silsden Juniors. Some notable performances in the early games were those of Alex Fox-bullivant, our goalie, who was impressing opposing coaches with some fine displays of goalkeeping. Also impressive was
Sam Cole our sweeper who formed a formidable partnership in defence with Andrew Parsons. Whilst up front Matthew Raby was prolific andputting himself well on target for a 30 goal season.Most match point nominations seemed to go to Joseph Snowdon, whose tireless running and dribbling brought compliments from all the managers we faced.
The second half of the season got under way with a terrific local derby against our stable mates the Colts. The boys were underdogs for this game but put up a display that was competitive from first to last, the game being decided by 2 solo efforts from the Colts star striker.
After bouncing back with a fine win against Shipley a run of three defeats put the campaign on the back foot only for a surging run of 5 victories to restore the challenge of a top half finish. One of these 5 wins was the return derby, and revenge with an outstanding display and superb 3-0 result. Joe Rainford, Callum Sharp and Joseph nabbing the vital goals.
The defence has improved remarkably over the season, helped by fine displays in the full back positions by Thomas Filarowski,Josh Allman and Michael Gibbon, whilst Kaylem King who stars most weeks in midfield has been a hero by deputising for our injured keeper in the last 4 games and not looking out of place.
Our midfield hascontributed vital goalswith Sam Hughes and Josephreaching double figures,their surges have been well protected by Oliver Poulton, Leon Cowell and Miles Tidman who break up so much dangerous play.
Up front Matthew and Joe have been helped by some pacey wide play from Josh Pheasey which has caused opposition defences problems and the team has just clinched another winning season. The third in a row in fact, which is a most pleasing stastistic. The final table shows Horsforth St.Margarets Reds in 5th place with 37pts from 11 wins, 4 draws and 7 defeats.
We will be looking to re-sign all our star players and having a good go at following the Colts up into the B division.
