Horsforth Rangers 4

Horsforth St Margaret's 1

Following last week's cup disappointment Rangers seeked to respond to manager Carl Covey's rallying call to show bouncebackability as they returned to the bread and butter of the league and a local derby.

The game started off relatively slowly with the battle mainly being

fought in the middle of the park and neither side really taking a grip of the game early on. Following a run down the left by Richard "Ants" Lee he delivered a lovely ball into the box where the on rushing Alex "Bradbo" Bradbury connected with a bullet header from 12 yards, the keeper was well beaten but the ball agonisingly came back off the post.

On 15 minutes a high ball from the Rangers defence was instantly controlled by Paul "Bruce" Hallet who cleverly flicked the ball out to the right where Silas Collinge arrived and from the angle of the box drilled a fantastic low strike across the St Margarets keeper and into the bottom corner.

Rangers were in total control and only the alertness of the St Margarets keeper prevented them from adding to their tally.

No sooner had assistant manager Chris Fozard mentioned to the watching Old Ball scouts that the only way he could see the opposition getting back into the match would be through a mistake of Rangers own making the self destruction button was hit.

Centre half Covey had time to clear his lines from the edge of his own box but his attempted dribble around the opposition striker lead to him losing possession and Will Wilson, once again impressive in the Rangers goal with no chance as the ball was calmly slotted past him.

A fiery end to the first half saw livewire Richard Lee booked for a late tackle and the half drew to a close with the score all square.

Following a positive half time team talk Rangers started the second

half with the confidence their recent results bring to a team and felt this was a chance to pick up another three points.

On the hour a free kick was awarded on the left Rob Sturdy delivered a wonderful ball into the area and Collinge, defying his lack of height leapt like a salmon to nod over the out-coming Maggies keeper and into the net, the bravery shown by Collinge was as pleasing as the finish itself.

65 minutes saw the first substitution of the game with the withdrawal of Jason Young and the introduction of Paul Walker who had a lot to prove after the weeks internally dealt disciplinary hearing.

On the 70 minute mark the ever impressive Richard Lee again out sprinted the Maggies right back to get in behind the defence and his perfect cut back from the bye line was smashed into an empty net with glee by Collinge to complete his first hat-trick in a Rangers shirt.

The hard working winger thoroughly deserved his moment of glory due to the relentless work rate he turns in week after week.

With the Rangers management team now sensing blood Sturdy was replaced on the left with another striker in Adam Mansell as Rangers went for the kill.

As the game drew to a close there was only going to be one side adding to their tally and so it proved, with just under 10 minutes to go Walker went on one of his trademark runs through the heart of the opposition, a quick one-two with Lee was finished by Walker with a sublime right footed drive into the goal.

The game ended with one unfortunate incident where a clash of heads at a corner saw Paul Hallett having to leave for the hospital with a broken nose and we all wish him well in his recovery.

So that's 5 wins in 6 games now for Rangers and these teams meet again next week in a district cup contest and a much closer encounter is expected.
