Turf Talk: Module to go off on an enticing mark

Tom George’s runner is trading at double-figure odds but on the very pick of his form, he is thrown in in this Grade Three event.

Two years ago he was riding high on a mark of 164 having won a Game Spirit and as well as claiming a fine third behind a dominant Sire De Grugy in the Champion Chase at the Festival. However, the wheels came off slightly during the 2014-15 season, turning in three so-so efforts in fine company before being sidelined for 18 months by injury.

Returned to action in Grade Two company, Module ran well for a long way in the Shloer Chase at the Open meeting last month, shrugging off a mistake at the first before just being found out against some sharper rivals.

He was beaten 22 lengths by Fox Norton that day and the handicapper has duly dropped him to a mark of 149, which looks very enticing indeed.

Module’s last run in handicap company came in the 2013 Haldon Gold Cup, when he was beaten just a head by the admirable Somersby off a perch of 152, and his current situation really does appeal.

The two-and-a-half-mile trip could well suit him better now than in his younger days and George has always insisted he does not need testing ground to be at his best.

A small saver on Kylemore Lough could also prove a good shout as he shaped with oodles of promise on his Ascot return, but has plenty of weight to shoulder here.

My Tent Or Yours disappointed on his reappearance at Haydock but can get back on the right track in the stanjames.com International Hurdle.

Nicky Henderson’s runner famously came back from two years on the sidelines with a cracking second in last season’s Champion Hurdle before filling the same position behind Annie Power again at Aintree.
