The Tin Man can make the most of a drop in class by returning to winning form in the bet365 Hackwood Stakes at Newbury.

James Fanshawe’s charge was last seen when finishing eighth of nine runners in the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot.

And while there was little disgrace in being beaten six lengths at Group One level, connections were surely hoping for better.

However, the ground was probably not ideal for the four-year-old as he has shown much his best form on a quicker surface than the good to soft he encountered in Berkshire and he was far too keen through the early stages.

Unsurprisingly his run petered out when the race really got going.

But it is perhaps best to just chalk that one up to experience and hope he can produce the kind of form that saw him win a Listed race on his seasonal bow this year and run a fine fourth behind Muhaarar at the end of last year.

Quicker ground is a definite plus and switching back to Group Three company should be another positive, although Charming Thought is expected to put up stiff opposition.

Richard Fahey fields a clutch of runners as he tries to make it three wins in four years in the Weatherbys Super Sprint.

But the booking of Paul Hanagan for Lady In Question is a significant move.

Their relationship goes way back so the fact Hanagan is aboard this filly makes her worth a second look.

A narrow neck winner on her sole start at Thirsk last month, this daughter of Elzaam looked the type to improve again and while this race is something of a lottery, she could well provide the winning ticket.

Scottish made a decent start for Charlie Appleby when third in the Brigadier Gerard and can get his first win on the board for his new handler in the bet365 Stakes, better known as the Steventon.
