Date: Sunday, October 28
Competiton: Leeds & District
As the clocks were turned back for the onset of winter, Colton under 15's were rolling back the years and looking more and more like a prospective first division team after yet another sterling performance.
At the start of the day Colton were positioned in 3rd place with Bramley just behind in 4th place. A group of 30+ local spectators's watched the game set off brightly. Colton's first real chance coming on the 5 minute mark when a neat midfield move involving Ryan White, George Walker & Josh Gould released James Hazelgrave & Ben Craven to pressurise the Bramley goal.
On the ten minute mark Colton were ahead with a majestic header from James Green. This was from a superb corner supplied by Ronan Whittle. 1 – 0 to Colton.
Bramley then began to find their rhythm and put Colton under pressure with two quick successive corners and an equaliser. 1 -1 and there was a lively game building. Bramley continued to pressurise the Colton defence but Sam Rudd and Dalton Fotherby dealt admirably with the pressure. Bramley sensed they could attack the Colton left back position but Harrison Brazier dealt with the pressure well and contributed to a strong defensive display. Adam Hamblett, the Colton keeper, dealt well with 2 Bramley strikes on goal.
Dalton Fotherby then made an excellent covering tackle to snuff out a Bramley attack. With Matthew Young then adding further defensive cover just before half time it appeared to add a little more steel to the Colton unit.
Colton then began to apply pressure of their own with James Green and James Hazelgrave both hitting the woodwork within 30 seconds of each other. Bramley managed to hold on to the 1 – 1 score line up until half time. The first half appeared to have had more than the usual number of balls going out of play, but with the ever willing ball boy of Matthew Green recovering the balls from below the horse chestnut trees of Temple Newsam.
The Colton half time team talk could be heard on the touch line as Rob 'the Cat' Hamblett and Nige the trainer tried to instil an improved second half performance.
The second half then begun with a swift move down the left after an interchange of passes from George Walker and Ryan White resulting in James Green having much work to do before despatching a neat left foot shot past the Bramley keeper. 45 minutes gone and 2 -1 to Colton.
Colton then continued to apply more pressure on the Bramley defence with Josh Gould, George Walker, Ryan White and Ben Craven all making good runs. It was then on the 60th minute that James Green finished a neat move with yet another decisive left foot strike and an excellent hat trick A score line of 3 – 1 and there was little Bramley could do with Colton in this rich run of form. Bramley appeared to be chasing shadows now and Colton's tails were up.
The Colton defence continued to be well marshalled by Dalton Fotherby & Sam Rudd and with Adam Hamblett offering vocal support you could see Colton going on to win well.
It was little more then ten minutes to the end when Josh Gould finished a move with a goal which had been set up by James Hazelgrave. A well worked goal and one well deserved after a very good game by Josh Gould. 4 -1.
The final few minutes ebbed and flowed with a miraculous goal line clearance by Dalton Fotherby further compounding Bramley's woe. The Bramley striker appeared to have only to tap the ball into the net from two feet out when it was nipped of his toes by Dalton.
An impressive performance by Colton which will have the top teams of the Division looking over their shoulders in anticipation.
Next weekend Colton travel to Bramley Phoenix for a Sunday afternoon kick off at 2pm.
