Colton Juniors U-15s 6

Seacroft WMC U-15s 3

Date: Sunday, September 30

Competition: Leeds & District

A warm bright end of September Sunday afternoon saw Colton take on Seacroft WMC at Temple Newsam. A large group of spectator's arrived in anticipation as both teams had recently found their form.

Colton kicked off and started strongly with a strike on the Seacroft goal within the first minute. Seacroft were on the back foot now and conceded 3 free kicks in the first few minutes with Ben Craven and James Hazelgrave both going close.

George Walker and Ryan White continued to run the midfield to good effect and setup James Green to surge down the left wing and cross a ball in for Ben Craven to head just over the Seacroft cross bar.

It was n't long before swift interplay between the Colton midfield and attack resulted in the ball finding its way to the Colton left wing where James Green ran on to the ball, rounded the keeper and slotted home to make it 1 – 0.

The left flank continued to be the source of all Colton's attacking and it was soon after the first goal that James Hazelgrave ran on to a cross and make it 2 – 0. As Rob 'the Cat' shouted to the team to keep communicating to ensure the pressure continued you could see the team respond.

As Seacroft tried to break out of the strangle hold Colton had applied they once again conceded a number of free kicks with George Walker, Josh Gould & James Green all going close. It wasn't too long before Colton scored a third through James Green. This was all down to a well taken penalty after a trip in the box by a Seacroft player.

As the half time whistle approached there was just enough time for a buzzing Colton team to strike a forth. This time James Hazelgrave dribbling past the Seacroft centre backs and passing the ball into the back of the net. 4 – 0 and half time.

The second half saw Seacroft come out seeking to reduce the arrears and as the supporters of Seacroft spurned their team on with vociferous shouting, the superb centre back pairing of the Colton captain, Sam Rudd, and Dalton Fotherby nullified all their attempts. Ten minutes into the second half and a speculative strike from Seacroft resulted in an Adam Hamblett fumble and a score of 4 – 1.

Seacroft tails were up, and as a dog the size of a bear wandered past, you could sense a change in the Seacroft team's attitude. The game began to ebb and flow and no quarter was given and none were asked. The teams were battling it out man for man.

Yet another trip in the Seacroft box resulted in James Hazelgrave despatching a penalty to the left of a good Seacroft goal keeper. 5 – 1. A swift response by Seacroft and they responded with another goal, 5 -2, and the game had become tasty. Seacroft then pressed further with Adam Hamblett having to save well at the feet of the Seacroft attack.

With Sam Bateman having come on at left back and Ronan Whittle returning to the attack it wasn't too long before James Green netted a third via a penalty.

A 6 -2 score line and the James' of Green & Hazelgrave had both netted a hat-trick a piece.

With Lewis Tyas and Harrison Brazier now on you could see an injection of fresh energy. Seacroft then scored with ten minutes to go. 6–3

As the game came to an end the teams both accepted a hard fought game had been won and lost in the first half. Blistering attack play and solid central defence & midfield play had won the match for Colton. Had it not been for an excellent goal keeping showing by the Seacroft goalie, then the game would have seen many more a goal.

Next weekend Colton play host to their local rivals Temple AFC.

Squad: Adam Hamblett, Sam Bateman, Sam Rudd, Dalton Fotherby, Lewis Tyas, Josh Gould, Ryan White, George Walker, Ben Craven, James Green, James Hazelgrave, Ronan Whittle, Harrison Brazier, Matthew Young & Sam Parker.
