Yorkshire golf: Leeds captain Nigel McKee bloods two debutants

TWO players will make their Yorkshirer Inter-District Union League debuts for Leeds against East Riding at Filey on Sunday as the team look to build on their recent derby triumph over Bradford.

Captain Nigel McKee has included Wetherby’s Jakob Schur and Selby’s Neil Clark in his line-up for the first time.

“Jakob works on the greens staff at Wetherby and I’ve heard good reports about him,” said McKee, who is captaining Leeds this season for the first time.

“He has done well through their junior ranks and has got his handicap down to one, so I thought I would give him this opportunity because we need to look at other faces because we are building for the future.

“Neil, from Selby, is a Scottish guy who the club’s captain said I should take a look at. I went up to the Yorkshire Division Two championship at Sand Moor and I think he shot a couple of 75s and he’s obviously a good player.

“He seems very up for it. I think I am just now getting into people’s heads about what I need and what we need as a team, and what we need to do.”

Cookridge Hall’s Tom Broxup and Howley Hall’s Tom North are on standby should McKee find any of his players need to cry off.

“Both Tom Broxup and Tom North would have been in the team but were originally unavailable, but now they have told me they can play,” said McKee.

“I can’t really drop someone at this stage and they are fine with that.

“But it is great to know they are waiting in the wings if anyone has to drop out late on.”
