Horsforth golf prospect Lee Spurling is busy strengthening up for 2012 – with confidence buoyed by being an apparent world record holder!

Spurling is continuing to work out at the Edge Gyms in Leeds – the former triple East Anglian under-12s champion hoping for big things next year.

But the 15-year-old Wike Ridge Golf Club member now believes that he has already achieved something pretty special back in 2010 during a round at Horsforth.

Spurling’s dad, Ian, explained: “Lee was looking on the internet the other night and he found out that the world record for the number of putts on a round of golf is 18.

“But in July 2010 Lee did it in 17! It was just a practice round but it has got to be a world record.”

Assessing his son’s likely targets in 2012, Ian added: “Edge Gyms have been fantastic and he is strengthening up all the time,

“We’ll have a look at what competitions Lee will compete in in the new year but his first aim is to get his handicap down.”
