Stalwart Robin's new role

Robin Cartwright may be switching his attentions from the touchline to the office, but Whinmoor Juniors can rest assured the club's future is in good hands.

From next season, Mr Cartwright will serve as club secretary after managing several successful all-conquering junior line-ups over the past decade.

The long-serving club stalwart started the club up a decade ago as an under-sevens side and since then, they have enjoyed a red-hot winning streak and picked up a stack of silverware – including the Harrogate and District League Cup in 2004-05, 2006-07 and 2007-08 and the Leeds and District Cup last season.

Today, the club has five teams with many players having been scouted by professional clubs such as Leeds United and Manchester City, along with Leeds Schools FA.

Along the way, Cartwright has tirelessly campaigned to secure funding for pitch drainage, recently winning a Football Foundation bid to pay for much-needed work, while also single-handedly applying for the FA Charter Standard, which the club hopes to receive this summer.

Under-18s assistant coach Simon Hindley said: "Thanks to Robin's hard work, the club has gone from strength-to-strength.

"His team have benefited from his dedication, skill and generosity and it's fabulous that Robin is staying on as club secretary – long may the success continue under Robin's leadership."

The club welcomes new players for the 2009/2010 season and new managers are required to continue Robin's legacy. For more information, please contact chairperson Lisa Uttley via www.whinmoorjuniors.co.uk
