Missed chances cost us, says Celts boss
BOSS Neil Parsley rued his Farsley Celtic side's failure to find a second goal in the 2-1 defeat to Corby Town at Throstle Nest on Saturday.
Mark Jackson had given the Celts a 19th-minute lead but two goals in two minutes in the second half for Corby condemned Farsley to defeat and ended their five-match unbeaten league run.
But despite the reverse, Parsley was pleased with the performance of his side and said the game was an entertaining spectacle.
He said: "It was a good game, we may not have got the result we wanted but we gave a good account of ourselves.
"We couldn't get the second goal and the pivotal moment was Matty Young's chance on the stroke of half-time. It came back off the post and had it gone in, it would have given them a lot to do.
"We didn't get the second goal and there is no way that I am disheartened by the defeat and I can go comforted by the fact we gave a good account of ourselves."
Farsley were certainly the underdogs going into the game as Corby are flying high in the league, but Jackson headed the home side into a surprise lead.
Farsley pressed for the second goal and Lee Ellington nearly doubled the Celts' advantage near to the end of the first period – the striker turned Gareth Grant's cross towards goal and the ball rattled the bar.
As the half was coming to a close – Matty Young hit the post with a 30-yard strike.
Farsley continued to press for their second goal after the break, Dave Syers connected with Grant's pass and the keeper Mark Osborn was forced into a great save.
But the tide turned as veteran striker Jason Lee made his introduction for Corby on 62 minutes.
Former Nottingham Forest striker Lee came up with the equaliser, three minutes later.
A scramble in the Farsley box caused confusion and Lee pounced for the leveller.
Moments after, Corby got the winner – Celts captain Dominic Krief gave the ball away on the halfway line and Stephen Diggin ran down the left-flank before lifting the ball over Celts keeper Piotr Skiba.
Farsley pressed for an equaliser – Krief had a shot saved by Osborn and then defender Josh Radcliffe saw a goal-bound header cleared off the line.
In the final moments of the game, Syers was clean through, but his weak effort was well-held by Osborn.
Harrogate Town slumped top the bottom of the table after going down 2-0 at Redditch United.
Town boss Simon Weaver made a number of changes for the basement battle, with both Craig James and Adam Nowakowski coming into the team to make debuts.
But it was Town's Arron Jameson who had to pick the ball out of the net on 27 minutes when Jack Byrne's low free-kick found the corner of the net.
After the restart, Town went close to equalising when a couple of shots were blocked in a goal-mouth scramble.
Simon Harrison then picked out Trevor Benjamin, who headed wide when well placed. Minutes later Benjamin's shot was deflected wide after good work from Nowakowski and substitute Ollie Ryan.
But Redditch secured the points on 79 minutes when Myron Semper volleyed into the far corner of the net.
