Guiseley AFC have completed the signing of defender Rob Atkinson ahead of the Vanarama National League bow on Saturday.

The former Grimsby Town, Barnsley, Fleetwood Town and Accrington Stanley centre-back has boosted manager Mark Bower’s option ahead of the big kick-off, with his arrival following the captures of Will Hatfield, Adam Lockwood, Tom Craddock and loan striker Jake Charles.

The 28-year-old has featured regularly during the Lions’ pre-season preparations, with Bower delighted with his acquisition.

Bower, whose side make their first appearance in the National League at Welling United on Saturday, said: “We’re delighted to get Rob signed up and I’m confident he will add extra quality and experience to our defence.

“He’s someone I’ve wanted to bring in since early on in pre-season and, like Locky, he’ll provide a calm head for us at the back this season.”

Atkinson left Accrington at the end of last season and also counted Halifax, Scarborough and Rochdale among his former clubs.
