Farsley Celtic set to appeal Mark Jackson ban

Another major obstacle has been thrown into Farsley Celtic's path with news player-coach Mark Jackson has been hit by a 35-day ban.

Jackson was sent from the touchline for swearing during the reserves' 3-0 victory over Thackley last week and, because he was an unused substitute at the time, he has been banned from both the dugout and the field of play by the West Riding County FA.

Celtic – who started the Blue Square North campaign on -10 points after entering administration in the summer– intend to appeal against the double whammy which would rob them of one of their most influential players for the whole of the busy Christmas period.

Boss Neil Parsley, who is hoping commonsense prevails, has refused to comment ahead of the appeal.

Meanwhile Farsley, who wiped out their points deficit in double-quick time, can leave their league campaign on the back-burner this weekend when high-flying Droylsden visit Throstle Nest in the final qualifying round of the FA Trophy.

It's an all-Blue Square North draw which has had Parsley cursing his luck, with several lower-league outfits still in the mix.

But with Farsley now up to 16th spot following a 1-0 victory over Solihull Moors last weekend, they will go into the game with confidence high and pressure low.

Parsley said: "We're blessed at Farsley with having very kind cup draws – not.

"Last year we beat Droylsden at this stage and then drew Conference leaders Burton Albion and lost on penalties. Last year we had Stalybridge Celtic away in the FA Cup and this year we got Fleetwood away.

"But Droylsden are the side before us. We have had many challenges set before us on and off the field this season and as always we will give it our best shot.

"Although we know it is a difficult game, we will relish it nonetheless, and we can go into it without the rigours or the pressures of the league.

"I'm very happy with the way the league is standing at the minute and it means we can concentrate on Droylsden on Saturday rather than be worrying about the table and looking at other results."

Parsley will also be without Matty Young, who serves a one-match ban tomorrow after accumulating five bookings.
